It will. All the other sims came to Mac so why not duece. It probably won't come out when the PC version comes out though.

Besides I heard that the sims was a huge hit on OSX

And still is, apparently. If you go to http://www.apple.com/games/ and look in the lower right corner of the page, "The Sims: Combo Pack" is number one on the top five Mac games chart.

There was an interview with Maxis and there's interest in making a Mac port. Not quite the official announcement you may be looking for, but there's still a chance. The Sims is very popular on the Mac, so I'd expect to see it.

Anyways, we've seen this topic about 5 times since I've been watching the Mac Gaming section of this forum. PLEASE, use the search feature in the forum. It's getting annoying repeating the same information time after time.

I'm pretty sure the port has already been confirmed... I think I remember seeing something about it on InsideMacGames.

    Sims 2 for Mac

There was a chat for the Sims 2 on July 1st or 2nd

    Tinkerbelll (Jul 2, 2004 5:23:32 PM)
PLEASE ANSWER THIS QUESTION!! I am a die hard macintosh user and I realize that the sims2 is coming out for PC's only. Will a mac version of the sims2 come out? if so, when?!?!

    MaxisNeil (Jul 2, 2004 5:23:32 PM)
I am a Mac user too! There will be a Mac version of Sims 2 - We haven't announced the release date yet.

I emailed Aspyr just a few days ago and their newsletter has no info yet on if they'll be the ones to release it.

I really hope this game comes out soon. It's so addicting, and now with awsome graphics it's going to be amazing.

I really have to wonder if those requirements are realistic. I'd think you'd need at least a 1 GHz machine (Maxis is going overboard with the calculations behind-the-scenes of their Sim games lately).

But, let's remember, these requirements are just for getting game to load and display properly. No guarantee it'll be playable to the amount you would want.

    SIMS 2 virtual pc?

I am obsessed with the Sims. I am, however, an unfortunate Mac user --only unfortunate, of course, in the realm of the sims. My sims games never work. I can only run the sims on my OS x emac without anything else running (the emac g4 is otherwise perfectly capable of running multiple programs). On my older iMacs, the sims always crashed. It still crashes, not as often, but it runs slowly and lags. I can't download objects because they slow up the game intolerably and if I attempt to install additional skins they crash the game. I've tried everything it seems like and nothing works. I'm wondering if the SIMS 2 pc version work if I install virtual pc. From what I gather , virtual pc is rather a hefty purchase and i'm really only doing it so i could get the sims 2 and be guaranteed it would work. but i want that guarantee. does anyone know if it would work?

ps. also i just don't want to wait for the overpriced and likely overdue mac version.

I wouldn't run the Sims that is out now on VPC let alone The Sims 2. VPC is meant for small business like apps and wasn't built for games. You will either have to wait for it to come to OSX or build a Gaming PC to run it. :p

    Why not bitch to EA?

I just wrote to EA (via their Contact link) and complained that no one was offering their Mac version (pretending there was one). If everyone else did the same, maybe that would put some fire under their feet?

No. It never works that way nor is it that simple.

For those planning to kill themselves...

... start knotting your ropes. It doesn't look like it will ever happen.
 Response from EA came in.
Thanks for contacting EA Online Support.

 Now I have a (playing ignorant) query out to Aspyr. Just because it never works, doesn't mean I should stop trying. :D

Yes, it does mean you should stop. You obviously do not understand how this business works.

Well, duh, EA does not offer any games for the Mac. Mac porting houses get the rights to the code, make it work on the Mac, give it to their publisher, and then it's sold to us Mac users. These publishers are never the original publishers. And that's a simple way of putting it. That's why EA cannot say they are making The Sims 2 for the Mac. Even if you asked Aspyr, they'll probably just ignore you or reply with something along the lines "we can't tell you about our future products."

There's already been an unofficial announcement on a chat Maxis had with fans where there was a Mac version coming. Of course everyone else is tight-lipped since the information is unofficial. Since The Sims 2 has just been released on the PC, I won't surprised to here an announcement in the following weeks about someone porting it. So stop wasting your time, and the time of the game companies. Thank you.
