After looking at various Macs, more specifically Mac laptops, I finally settled on 14 inch iBook. I read criticisms that it's not that good, since the resolution is only 1024x768, but I've been running that resolution on my Windows PC with 17 inch CRT monitor, so it was no problem for me.

I must say, I am very impressed. The toolbar at the bottom of the screen is incredibly easy to use, and I wonder how I could ever go back to using the Start Menu on Windows. The screen is great, and not shaky like my CRT monitor seemed to be. I've used the trackpad on many laptops and hated it, but I really like this one, as the two finger scroll method is ingenious.

I do plan on buying the AppleCare warranty sometime within the year. Also, I want to add another gig of RAM soon. Mine also came with iLife 05, but I'm planning on getting the up to date one for $10 off of Apple.

Right now, I've been looking for the ideal case. A friend of mine bought one from Apple for his 12 inch iBook. However, it would seem that cases for the 14 inch model are much less common than for the 12 inch model. Yes, I know the question has been asked to death for various other laptops, but are there good cases for the 14 inch iBook?

Glad you're liking your iBook :) I've recommended it to a few friends in the past few months and they're all pleased as well.

As for cases, there are a lot of places out there... I'm getting one from tombihn as soon as Tuesday ;)

The iBooks are solid purchases. I have a few friends who have one and they swear by them.

Oh I know. I can see this trend spreading. For a while, I thought about getting a Mac. It wasn't until I ran into an old friend, who had an iBook, that I really started looking into it. Now, I told another friend how much I like it and will let him check it out tomorrow, and now he's considering getting one. The cycle continues!

You didn't post where you live, but do you have a CompUSA around? They have this really nice 14" targus case that is neopreme with yellow around the edges and mostly black (looks really cool).

Anyway, it's a really good case and you should be able to find it since they don't really sell very many cases there...

Just incase you didn't know; it's called the "Dock." :)

(It's always good to know the terminology, if you have a problem it's easier to explain and have others understand you).

Congrats on your purchase of a 14" iBook.

I'm surprised you picked up the Mac OS that fast, I have had loads of friends that have played around with macs and they can seem to get their heads around it.

    enjoy.

Samsonite L35. Fits my 14" iBook great. Only runs around $25-$30.

BTW: My bro and sis just came home for spring break, and I played on Windows XP, all my god is it crappy. Never going back to that OS. So hard to use.

from all people i have talked to from the clamshell ibook (like mine) to the newest ones, i hear nothing but great kudos for the product

in many ways, dollar for dollar, especially since the processor is the same most of the time throughout the ibook/powerbook lines, the ibook is a better machine for most people

I hear you on that one! :)

It took me all of a week on, what was at the time, Panther before I was ready to toss the Dell desktop at work out the window because of pure frustration at Windows. Tiger only increased my frustration with Windows.

I have the latest version of the 12" iBook and absolutely love the thing. I hope you enjoy yours as much, they make for great computers. :)

A case is a good idea, but may I suggest a sleeve?

I got the Marware sleeve for my 12" iBook, because I like to carry it around in my backpack, and the computer case I bought is more of a traveling thing. Either way, it's made of neoprene and is a very snug fit. I'm pretty sure they have them for the 14" iBook as well.
