... but how do I use the damn thing?

When I read about it I saw this as being an absolute gem of a feature, particularly as I use Pages to write all of my job applications and thought it would enable a system-wide thing where I can integrate my signature if I so need it.

I go to Preview prefs and can't select it or anything. Well I can, but I can't use it and can't see anything in other apps.

    Anyone shed some light please?

    Thanks...

I think it's for signing PDFs

Yeah, the signature feature in Preview is only for putting a "hand-written" signature onto PDF documents.

You have to show toolbar, then select the signature icon, then use the crosshairs to place it.

The idea is that you sign PDFs, not editable documents from applications like Pages. You would print to PDF from Pages, THEN sign it and print it. Apple should have provided an Automator workflow for this in Pages.

In Pages just grab a picture of your signature and paste it in. That's really all this feature does, and Pages already has that ability.

Or try Autograph from Ten One Design; you can sign about anything you can edit.
