I have some old concert bootlegs on tape that I'm going to convert into mp3 but they are kind of grainy after several years. Is there any inexpensive software anyone could recommend that can help clean up the files and possibly improve the quality a bit? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Waves Restoration, 14 day demo should work fine FREE. Bias has Peak, various denoiser, de clicker, etc. Ray Gun, and other plug ins....
    There are so many.....

Toast since Titanium 5.1 (?) has CD Spin Doctor 1.5 - it has plug ins for noise reduction, removing Pops, Bass/Treble, Exciter, and may even take other plug ins...

If it's tape hiss - noise reduction is your default fix - CD Spin Doctor 1.5 is for converting tapes/ records to digital - and removing noise, hiss, pops, clicks....
( CD Spin Doctor 1.5 FREE W/ TOAST 5 + I'm sure lots of people have it & never use it, maybe you... or someone could email it 2 you.... )

If it's hiss - Equalizer will filter out those well..... but you may find better results with a noise reduction VST -like in CD Spin Doctor - if you don't have much experience....

    Your Milage may vary.....

    Good Luck!

    Beautiful Vancouver British Columbia, Canada
Sounds like you need Sound Soap 2 ($99.99)

or Sound Soap Pro (not sure how much)

it's an app/plug-in that is dedicated to cleaning up poor audio.
