    Hi
I procured a number of books from various sources which were PDF files
Although iPad will read these you cannot change the font.

Solution..the free program Calibre and you can convert these to EPUB.
When you put this via iTunes on the iPad the will appear in iBooks under the Books tab and will allow all the things you can do with books you got from the Apple Store.
This means you can have virtually unlimited titles

Perhaps you knew all about it, but when I looked for a solution I was unable to find in anywhere on the net

I agree with you. I use Calibre a lot. Works flawlessly. I use it to convert the books I write in Open Office into epub format for my iPad. They go right into my iBook bookshelf. Fantastic program

I agree too. Calibre is great. It even has an iTunes driver so you can install a book directly from Calibre onto your iPad or iPhone. I used it to convert a load of old ereader.com books to epub.

As a whole works well, though I have had a couple of books it hasn't been able to convert automatically.
