Unbelievable. There's a company in the UK (Metronomy) that is offering free computers to anyone (in the UK) who wants it. A 2.4 Celeron. The thing is, they are modeling it after tv's "forced advertising breaks." You got it. One minute of ads for every twenty minutes of use. Writing an important paper that's due soon? Too bad, time for an ad. Playing a long video game? Hope the other team doesn't attack you for that minute of ads. This just sounds horribly ridiculous to me, but I guess it will help some people who can't afford to have a computer.

do you have a link to more info on this?

    Here's the Link.

Sounds like idiocy to me. Who want's to be 20 minutes into a porno only to have a commerci.... well nevermind. Forget I saind that. :D Talk about interruptus.

I don't know what they could do to you if you wiped the drive clean. I'm sure you could after the 3 years are up, but who wants to be using a Celeron 3 years from now? I guess it would be like your cell phone deals, if you break it they get to slap you with all kinds of fees.

Sounds like a horrid way to get a PC though. I surely wouldn't sign up for something like this. How much would it suck to be in the middle of typing a response here and have

I dont know about the rest of you but this is just plain dumb. Id rather get a 500Mhz Pc from www.accrc.com than use a computer thats going to cut down your productivity and your "fun time"

    honestly...

what is it that will render the computer useless if the cd of ads is not loaded onto the computer. it must be some software embedded into windows.

on second thought... could the firmware have some sort of timer on it that, if not reloaded after 30 days, not allow the computer to start up?

i'm really interested in how this is supposed to work... if you didn't notice.
