i have this little icon - a text bubble that says request attention

when i check it the alert states that no system admin is available or something along those lines

any idea how to get rid of it?

it only appeared after i ran and quit Apple Remote desktop

     hmmmm

    obviously a pirated version...

do a search for ARD and delete everything that could be linked to apple remote desktop...then restart

those thing are indeed for apple remote desktop. they use them at the apple store. you can see if there is something in the preferences if what monkey said doesn't work.

I really don't know how you come to that conclusion based on what he posted.

ARD automatically adds the "request attention" menu bar item when you install the client or admin. You can command + drag it off, but it will come back when you restart. To delete the menu bar item remove this file:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/MenuExtras/RemoteDesktop.menu

Yes, it's so that a client computer can notify an admin that they need help. The admin app will show the user as flagged so that they can see what the issue is.

Why are you using ARD? If you didn't know what the menu icon did, how can you have a decent idea of what ARD does?

apple remote desktop is too expensive for someone who bought the program to not know why it's little request attention bubble is there and/or why they can't get rid of it...besides...if he/she bought it, why would they get rid of it? (granted there are extenuating circumstances--but it was a lucky guess :D)

i never did say that it was wrong to use a little pirated software here and there for self-educational purposes...i checked out ARD once--found NO use for it when i have only one machine :D

then i recommend Apple Local Desktop. ALD allows you to administer the machine you're sitting at.

    :)
