Maybe they should be granted the trademark, and be handed a bill for the first three weeks of the war.

If they want it they should get it, right between the eyes -- imagine the "Shock and Awe" they'll get when Uncle Sam comes to collect the money.

'Shock and awe' on lingerie, that's just the way to commemorate such a history making event.

Advertisers are always looking for a catchy phrase! I don't think that the lingerie idea will go forward.

It would be a more fiting for the title of a game!

Did you just mention J. Lo and talent in the same sentence?

yup :)- She is a mediocre singer, a great dancer, and she seems
nicer than many celebrities. She is very talented, so is Brittney,
they just should take some more singing lessons.

There dancing seems to be about gymnastics. They couldn't do their performance if they weren't athletic and in good physical shape.

The voice lessons should have started at an earlier age. Either you have a good voice to start with or you don't!

I believe Sony was already awarded the rights to the phrase. They have already announced plans on using it in future game and hardware advertisements.

what does a trademark have to do with the war? If anything Sony should be paid for all of the networks that use the phrase since the trademark has been granted. Thats 1st grade law buddy.

War in Iraq is no video game

This is sad. No matter how good the game could be, I do think that by giving a video game this title/subject SONY would be insensitive to anyone affected by this war. In Europe and the Middle East people could say that it is in bad taste to make entertainment out of a war so recent (and in many ways, on-going). Even Americans could feel cynical about this although I suspect most would feel perfectly gleeful to blow up some virtual Iraqis. In any case, I will not buy this game and I hope anyone who also disapproves of video gamed war will do the same as an act of protest.

If anybody actually read the article, you would've noticed this:

"The phrase "shock and awe" was coined, but apparently not trademarked, by military strategist Harlan Ullman in a 1996 publication. He used it to describe a tactic of pressuring the enemy to give up with little fighting"

Now what does this have to do with blowing up Iraq? Sure, it was the first time anybody had seen anything like it, but the term does not apply strictly to Iraq.

Ironically, the aforementioned publication was referring specifically to the way in which Nazi Germany perfected it. Stukas, anyone?

Exactly. How is the phrase tied to war and killing? It isn't it's just that our government has chose of late to use it to describe a war tactic. A tactic that all. It isn't irreversably tied to the war yet. Also if you do a search on google with sony and the term you will see that the phrase has been used with Sony in the past before this war. All in all it's not like there trying to copyright the phrase, "Nazi Gas Chamber," or any thing else like that that has no other meaning.

I'd ask for my money back on that first grade law class...

They definitely mixed up commercial use of trademark phrases (and/or infringement) and a reporters ability to use trademarked phrases in the reporting of a news item.

Plus if Sony does what you said and ask new organizations for money for reporting on the war, doesn't that drag the war into it. If you want to hand them the rights to the war at least charge them for it.
