Gimme a break. First Sony claims that only 1080p is "true" high definition... now they are claiming that their Blu-ray movies on disc are "beyond" high definition:

Just when you think the hype machine can't possibly go much further...

it doesnt do anything more than 1080P, a HDTV standard

I think perhaps they're referencing the TrueHD sound which isn't present in any other format, like TV. High Definition would then be consisted of both picture and sound, the picture already being of the highest definition.

firstly- cool! I'm a huge lover of Camelot games but I didn't think that expanded BEYOND Golden Sun and various Golf games!

I just realised that box looks congealed. It isn't the final box is it? I mean looking at any DVD box with nothing more than an age rating sticker, looks like they're gone overboard with the slogans and graphics. Surprised Sony put an actual image of the film on there, after all it's taking up valuable hyperbole space. Another reason why I'm sitting out on this one. I like my boxes to be less about touting how great the medium is.

That game stinks. They brought it here instead of PoPoLoCrois because they thought fans wanted 3d graphics. Bleh. Glad it finally came out on PSP.

What is "high definition sound", then, and how does it differ from current DVDs with Dolby Digital or DTS soundtracks? I suppose with all that space they don't need to compress it quite as much, but...

Honestly, Sony is just so silly these days.

HD DVD uses the sames audio and video codecs (Blu-Ray just has a higher maximum bitrate).

Yea, The "Beyond" High-Def is refering to the HD sound... Maybe the sound is uncompressed????? I dont know, but it could probably fit on a 50GB disk...

Why does everyone hate Sony? Have they done anything bad to you? If anything you are all a bunch of hypocritical jackasses, "oh my sony sucks, now hand me that ps2."

It is just marketing hype, every company does it, GET OVER IT.

If I remember right, True HD sound was mandatory for HD-DVD and only optional for Blu-ray.

    Color me unimpressed.

I don't hate Sony. Far from it... I own a TON of Sony gear, but not a PS2, and I won't be buying a PS3 or Blu-ray. Sony are acting like idiots right now and some of us are pretty disappointed about that.

Take my word for it : Dolby TrueHD sounds phenomenal. It even deciding if I buy the title or not now. Batman Begin was nothing short of breathtaking visual and incredible audio.

I wasn't referring to quality. I just meant I don't care for Sony's claim of "Beyond HD."
