Strange Screen Dimming Behavior

My PB12 just started exhibiting a strange behavior. After a period of no keyboard or mouse activity, the screen dims. However, after touching the keyboard or mouse it does not return to its former brightness. If I press the F1 or F2 key it immediately changes to the former brightness (plus or minus one notch depending on what I pressed).

Anyone ever run into this? Annoying.

It could be the "dim screen on idle setting". Check the Energy Saver pref pane to make sure it isn't checked.
