hi, just got my macbook pro and switched from windows.........i have three questions that probably have very simple answers, so please take pity on me and help....

1. how do you remove unwanted icons/links from the desktop without deleting the file? whenever i download a photo from my email account, it puts it on the desktop---i move it to iphoto, but the link stays on the desktop and if i drag it to the trash it removes it from the computer.

2. i'm trying to set up the mail to get my mail from my yahoo account----it doesn't seem to work, i go to the set up screen and fill out the little form, but it doesn't work.

3. how do you delete a movie from quicktime?? i thought i was downloading a music video, but alas, it was porn and i can't figure out how to get rid of it...

thanks in advance for your help, i've been trying to figure everything out on my own but these three things are leaving me baffled.......--------sandi

1. the file seems to be on the desktop. You can move it into the pictures folder (i think) and it will stay there.

2. can you tell us what it is saying? error codes, etc.

3. try movies folder or spotlight the names of the file.

it moves into the pictures folder, but it also stays on the desktop. if i take the icon off the desktop by putting it in the trash, it also deletes it from iphoto.

2. can you tell us what it is saying? error codes, etc.

the first answer is probably right------i never paid yahoo to let me do this...so, that sucks.....i'll live, i never used outlook on my pc anyway, so i'm used to just going to yahoo...

3. try movies folder or spotlight the names of the file.

ok, it's not in the movies folder. it shows up when i open quicktime and search for recent stuff-------and it won't let me drag it out of there. when i click the quicktime options, the option for delete is greyed out and says you can only use it if you buy quicktime pro----is this right?? and it buying quicktime pro worth it? so far all i want to do is get rid of the porn!

thanks for answering so quickly.......still have all three problems though :) -------sandi

In spotlight, search, then click show all when it is done. then, with the files it returns, click the i button on the far right of the info display. it will say where: and thats the root.

good luck!

Do you mean "File > Open Recent"? If so, isn't there a "Clear Menu" choice on the bottom of the list?

Just drag the application icon from the desktop into your Applications folder. Adding it to the dock just creates a shortcut for the app and dragging it from the desktop to the trash deletes the app(!), which you don't want.

Hey There.

With Quicktime, if you navigate File->Open_Recent there is a 'clear menu' selection at the bottom of the list.

Also, if the movie file still exists in your hard drive, just search for it by name using spotlight, and then drag it to the trash.

Enjoy you MacBook Pro!

Questions 1 and 3 were answered, but #2 hasn't. Yahoo charges for POP access, so you won't be able to use Mail to get your Yahoo mail unless you pay for Yahoo Mail Plus.

If you want a free account with POP access, I have a GMail invite if you want it. PM me and I'll hook you up.
