I'm not an advanced user
how can i replaced the old .kext files with the new modded .kext files correctly
It not just copy and paste and replaced right?
seems it didn't work with my 5,1 mac pro
Thanks

Ok done!! with kext Utility
My system is 5,1 Mac Pro
GTX970 Ref
2X Dell up2414q
Yosemite 10.10.3
Nvidia web driver 346.01.02b01
Can't boot while the monitor is in DP1.2 mode
I have to switch to DP1.1 first then turn on the Mac pro
Then set the display to DP1.2 on the OS X login screen
Seems it crashed when use 2 display or when the Mac pro turn to sleep
It didn't wake from sleep, I have to reset the machine

Anyway Thanks MVC you make a good job for everyone
and hope you can fixed everything soon.
Thanks again man:)

10.10.0 with latest web drivers for 10.10.0 work perfectly. 10.10.1 with one version before the latest web drivers for 10.10.1 work perfectly with the hack on the 980.

It's very annoying cause I'm stuck at 10.10.0 and would like to get to 10.10.2 or 10.10.3 but switching DP modes on the Asus every time is not gonna happen, it's a pain in the butt.

It's very frustrating because I either have to change my monitor which I paid $1500 + tax, and I prefer it to any other ~30" size 4k cause the coating is great or get a nMP which is gonna be downgrade in some aspects and more money.

Better way to get 4K 60Hz with Nvidia cards !!!

Imagine if you had paid $3,500 like some idiot early adopters did to get 4K news out.

I just verified that the hack works if done like the other poster mentioned.

I am in 10.10.3 running 346 web driver and my Asus 321 is at 4K and 60 Hz.

I imagine if I restart it I will have failure and need to do the SST to MST switch.

I documented the steps once, it takes 10 button pushes to switch from one to other.

And they aren't labeled on-screen like Dell ones are.

And it is easy to hit "power" instead of one of them and lose all progress half way through.

A big piece of "FAIL" on these displays is this MST to SST switch.

Why couldn't it have been one button push? Instead a weird series of 8 buttons pushed in an odd order for a total of 10 pushes to switch a single function? MORONIC.

But it's still a great looking display. And this hack still works, just not easily.

UPDATE: Found an easier way !!!!

So, connect an HDMI cable to your GPU and switch Asus to HDMI mode. Note this isn't "Dual HDMI" mode, but the one where you have two (2) separate HDMI inputs to choose from.

Boot into 10.10.3 with modded file in HDMI mode, then simply switch to DP mode and VOILA ! you have DP in 4K 60Hz !

You will then need to disconnect HDMi cable to keep mouse from vanishing.

Can you guys try this and let me know?

I just did this with EFI GTX Titan X, but should work with other Nvidia GPUs.

EDIT: Just tried again, works easily. Note that the 60Hz DP version of PQ321 is the one not labeled "30 Hz"

Great news on the HDMI trick!

Thanks for all the testing and finding out these little tips and tricks MacVidCards!

I'm extremely busy with work right now but when I find the time I will update and report back.

Perfect Pixel Crossover just hit the street with a $700ish V40" UHD 60Hz MST/DisplayPort 1.2 display with a VA Panel jand should play nicely with the cMP & nMP. Initial reviews are rough as it initially listed multiple 1080P resolutions for gaming at high refresh rates that aren't happening. There is a great thread following it at overclock.net.

Didn't realize that there were still MST displays coming out.

I am thrilled to be using 4K MST at 60Hz again via Nvidia cards on cMP.

One weird thing is I have a Logitech wireless mouse that works fine at 30Hz, but when display in 60Hz MST mode it lags and skips.

Busted out the old wired mouse and all good.

Has been doing this for awhile, but otherwise I think this HDMI trick will help folks with this or the Sharp version.

Anyone especially bored and/or good at Googling?

Here are all of the Macs on the "4K Blacklist"

We might better understand what this list is for if we knew exactly which machines are on it and which are off.

I can tell you this, my 2014 Mini is NOT on the list, it is Mac-35C5E08120C7EEAF. And yet right now I am using an eGPU GTX680 in OS X and I put the 4K into MST mode and still only am offered 30Hz resolutions. And I can't run this hack on it since it isn't on the list to begin with. So there is another component that is telling the driver that this machine only does 30Hz @ 4K.

Apple is a sneaky bunch.

BTW, if you want to see what your board id is, type:

ioreg -lp IOService | grep board-id

into terminal, those on 4,1 Mac Pro should find that they are one of the shorter ids that ends in an "8"

Might be interesting if 1,1 isn't on the list, we could learn something. Though I don't relish hauling the 1,1 50ft to the 4K or vice versa.

I don't know where this 4K blacklist has come from and I could not find such a list via Google. The link is just to a list of AHT downloads and nothing to do with 4K support or lack of.

I did check my board IDs on a few Mac Pros and bizarrely a couple of MacPro1,1 units were not in this list, but a MacPro4,1 and 5,1 were.

Please provide your source of this blacklist so we can understand what it is referring to.

The good news is that if you do, you'll find I didn't make the list up. In fact, if you focus your thoughts you will realize that this list exists on every Mac on the planet that is running Yosemite.

Working well

Has anyone played around with this some more?

I just chucked a GTX970 in the 3,1 and plugged into the PQ321 Asus.

Saw boot screen on left side only but desktop appeared in full 60Hz glory.

This on 10.10.3 Build 14D131 with the driver for it. (Pre- "supplemental Update")

The amazing thing is I didn't do the HDMI boot, switch to DP.

I just booted and it came up in full 4K 60Hz.

Not sure if it is just the GTX970, will observe some more boots and different cards, but sure is nice having it "just work" like it did back in 10.10

My 5,1 and GTX970 with latest update 10.10.3 and new nvidia web driver
Still act like the same
need to switch to dp1.1 before boot
and then switch to dp1.2 to get 60Hz

1. can't turn off the display while the computer running
because the computer will freeze
2. can't switch to dp1.1 while the computer running,
the computer will also freeze
3. can't let the computer sleep because it will never wake up

Did you see what I wrote about starting in HDMI and switch to DP?

Much easier and has worked 100%

IN the "bad news" department, the 970 didn't always let me just boot via DP, that first time was some sort of tease.

And in further bad news, a Titan Black didn't work at all with this. As in DP MST mode was black. Put a 970 in with no software changes and MST worked again. Will do more testing but maybe Nvidia is concentrating driver development on Maxwell, they certainly are very impressive cards.

Hey guys, moved the relevant info into first post and re-wrote it for easier reading and modding.

Anyone trying please let us know how it works.

Also now on our blog.

Also< i am taking the "Blacklist" and trying to figure out how it works by adding the GPU on these machines. Instead of answers I am getting more questions. Obviously there is another component to this that we don't understand.

Apple pulled a fast one

At some point in last few weeks, the Device Policy kext changed.

It now has 2 specified "Configs"

Looks like Config 1 is for nMP and Confog 2 for iMac 5K

Interestingly, Config 2 specifically mentions the Asus/Sharp 321 4K MST display.

So, need to figure out what this all means, we used to want to remove our machines from the list...maybe now there are other things we want to try.

Or maybe this is now AMD only....hard to say without testing.
