does anybody here know anything about the sufis?
I believe it's a sect of Islam. Beyond that, I don't really know much.
This webpage has a few decent definitions of sufism as well as links to other Sufi definitions of sufism.

Classical Sufi Definitions of Sufism
Sufi is a Muslim ascetic and mystic.
///Beyond that definition, first I heard of it.
///I gander to think it is similar to a monk, who practices extreme self-discipline.
"Suf" - an Arabic word = "wool". Probably from the garments they used.
This link takes their origin back to a spin off of the Sunni Tradition out of 7th Century Islam.
Google and Wiki are your friends. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sufi I'm sure you wanted something a little more first hand, but somehow I doubt you'll get that here.
Hm, glad you brought it up though. I learn something new every day. Thanks.
