I'm excited, but first I need a Wii. They better start coming in stock soon.

I wish they made a Paper Mario for the DS.

April 9 is tenative, local Gamestops arent even taking pre-orders yet. Was this date on Nintendo's website, or on some gaming site?

It looks cool but the thousand year door kind of got on my nerves so I'm not too sure of this...I'll pick this up later on in its release.

Paper Mario has more of an RPG format. You can talk to other characters, there are stats, equipment, and an inventory for items, and combat is turn based.

I will be picking this up. My wife's a big fan of the series. For some reason, I just never get around to playing the Mario RPGs, probably because I end up watching her play through them. :p :)

The Paper Mario games are more of an RPG with side-scrolling platformer elements thrown in. Some examples from Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door:

    - When you're walking around, you encounter a Goomba that, when you touch it, will trigger a typcial RPG-style turn based battle. But if you can jump on that Goomba's head before the battle starts, you get a first strike.

    - In battles, you can deal more damage to enemies by pressing a button at just the right time; likewise, you can reduce the damage dealt to you if your timing's good.

I've only been playing Thousand Year Door for a few days now. I like RPGs and I like platformers, and this is an interesting (if not absolutely compelling) mix of the two genres. I'll give it some more time before passing judgement, but it's certainly worth a look if you're interested.

Well, at least in the old ones combat was turn based. It doesn't look like it so much in this iteration.

so its like a cross between pokemon and mario!

it sounds good and the screen captures look good! I may have to look into it when it comes out, but only if i have got closer to completing zelda!

Anyone remember Super Mario RPG for the SNES? That game was so awesome. I liked it tons better than Paper Mario for the N64. I wish Square made a sequel for the Nintendo DS.

Maybe im completely missing the point of this, but based entirely on those screenshots, it looks like the ugliest game I've ever seen.

And not ugly in the way that gameplay makes you happy, its distractingly ugly. :p

I think it's just got a very extreme and distinctive style. Some will love it, some will hate it.

Right now I don't know which Mario Wii game I want more.

Awesome! I've only played the first Paper Mario on Nintendo 64, but this one looks amazing. Too bad I don't have a Wii though =p. The last image of the blown up old super mario looks funny.
