can someone help me out. Whats up with NE and Safari? Why is IE so much faster on complex flash sites? Or is this a typical mac problem? It seems that the movement of the cursor and the effects cannot be as fast transmitted as on IE.

Hardware here: Dual G4 867 (new models with DDRam)

Again: I am referring on larger and complex flash sites!!!

It is not just complex sites

I have a very simple site, with a single embedded flash movie.

if you look at it in ns/safari the page performs fine, not like the computer is choking on it, but it just seems like the playback speed is set very very very low.

on omniweb and ie it plays back very fast, sometimes too fast...

Not sure why, but post a link to a complex site and I'd like to take a look myself. I've noticed that Safari deals with Flash a little better than IE on some of the sites I've been too.

that was the single most confusing thread title ever :) anyway, my guess is that Flash and Shockwave were developed with IE in mind, since it's the dominant browser. So the other browsers aren't optimized for. but i could be wrong... Netscape didn't seem *that* much slower, i used it a lot for shockwave games...

What are some of the sites?

I have a flash site a visit all the time, and it has been slow however I try it.

550 MHz TiBook in Safari and IE
    Dell at school in IE
    G4 400Mhz in IE

I figure it's just been the server.

David Hyatt has said on his build of Safari the flash lag has been fixed. The next public build should include this fix.

Flash playback really sucks compared to pc's. Even Mhz vs Mhz a pc is at least 50% faster.. I can't believe that Macromedia has been doing all it can to improve this. There is a petition somewhere you can sign.

I completely agree with you cc. I bought my Ti to design flash web pages and I was extrmeley upset with flash player's performance. This is clearly Macromedia's fault, but that doesn't mean Apple can't do anything about it, right?

The only good thing about having my flash movies run slow is that it allows me to test how my movies would run on slower computer's like my grandma's celeron dell. Thanks macromedia!
