sorry if this seems a thick question, but what recordable dvd's can my new MBP write to. I thoiught i would be ok with DVD+R and DVD+RW, but when i inserted one, and profiled the disc it was listed as writable = No. Are apple drives fussy or am i doing something wrong.

    What brand did you insert?
    Was it +R or +RW?
    Was it clean?
Have you actually pressed 'burn' and seen it not work?

it was a newly unwrapped Philips DVD+R, I opened disc utility and burn was greyed out and in the writable line it said no. Am i doing this wrong as im used to pc's and have only just made the move to macs

Be careful of the speed of the DVD's as well. I made the mistake of buying 16X DVD-R's and while they do work sometimes, the don't always work.

Guess I should have read the warning on the top of the DVD case, heh.

Apple recommends that you use DVD-R, DVD-RW, and DVD+R DL. I have always had bad luck with DVD+Rs other than the Dual Layer ones.
