recently my System preferences window has become messed up. One of the icons looks weird. (look at the pic @ the bottom of the post)

But the weird thing is, it's not happening on the other user's accounts. (i just made a new one)

Does anyone have any advice on how to fix? is this happening to anyone else?

Try repairing permissions. Looks like it's loading the wrong image as the icon.

Close System Preferences, then look for a file called "com.apple.preferencepanes.cache"...it's in <your user directory>/Library/Caches. Drag it to your Desktop and then try opening System Preferences again. If all looks well, you can go ahead and trash the file you dragged to your Desktop.

How many times do you have to say that per week? It seems to be your job here at MacRumors. :p

Maybe you should just make that your signature. :D

Also, is it just me, or is this problem popping up more often?

I had the same problem on my MacBook, and my olds have the same problem on their MBP. Does it have anything to do with the 10.4.7 update?

It has been going on for a while(I think). I just don't bother with it. It eventually goes away anyway.

It seems to be more prevalent on Intel Macs. Has anyone even had it happen on a PPC machine yet?

Yes, I had that happen a couple of times on my iBook, but sacrificing a virtual chicken to the local digital deities*always helped...

*i.e. restarting, repairing permissions, running periodicals and/or getting rid of some preference files

Interesting. I'm pretty sure the periodicals clear out this cache which would have fixed the problem for you, but I could be wrong.

    I think you're right.

The batch tasks of MainMenu does wonders sometimes... :)
