Taking resume to the next logical step

I was discussing boot screens just recently, and the topic came up that they are unnecessary and should be rethought. When my SSD mac boots, it takes less than thirty seconds anyway.

What with Lion getting resume, why not take a snapshot of the screen (like resume already does with apps and web pages) and show that at boot with the spinner (or progress bar)? I believe that's what happens now while waking from hibernation anyway, and there's no reason with quick boots as well now that Lion resumes last state.

That way you get a feel for what the desktop will look like from the get go as well as a more "instant on" feeling.

Would be a problem with multiple accounts, or anyone who wants to password-protect their Mac.

Good call. Should of course only be enabled with auto-login on.
