I'm trying to decide on a tattoo.... its so hard. I want it to express something that i feel is true, and says something about me.

So far i've decided i want it to be:
    1. political
    2. left wing
    3. Popular front
    4. anti-corporation

so far no luck finding what i want. i've looked through some other symbols as well.

Although if could get a tatoo like this one.... that would be very cool.

Unfortunately I don't have a scanned image or pic of my tattoo. I've really liked having the one I have, I've been surprised at the number of people who comment on it. A friend of mine in the Navy worked with me to develop the final image. I can't find his original website right now, but he ended up designing tattoos for a lot of people. Having a unique tattoo is a must, even if it is inspired by an existing idea. Jesse is a creative artist, and to his credit, he is very patient when it comes to drawing out a variety of designs to find the right one. Don't pick a design until you find one that you feel perfectly represents what you are trying to express.

I ended up with a tribal that I call 'Many Paths.' Inside of it, there is a sun, and inside of the sun there is a Dragon (for my Chinese astrological symbol.) I have the original drawing as well. I've been somewhat reluctant to make a high quality reproduction of it because of that. I don't really want to see anything similar in design from appearing.

    P.S.

The designs you have presented are really cool. I like all of them.

Cool. Yeah, i'm going to have to find the perfect one.... and maybe i'm going to have to get someone to draw some up for me. I'm still undecided where i'm going to put mine.... probably on my back or something, so if i want to hide it, i can.

But this is the way i'm going to do it: After i get back my six-pack, and get in really good shape, this tattoo is going to be my treat to myself. This way i'll have some good motivation to get back in shape (i had a six pack over summer and such.... but vacation.... and work..... i didn't have time to work out). So obviously now, i'm going to workout like a fiend :) .

Don't any of you other macrumors guys have some tattoos, or stories about tattoos you'd like to share?

p.s. thanks for you comments Xtremmahkr

i want to get a tattoo (actually probably two- one on the back of each of my arms, such that if my arms are straight down you see the tat on each side)...

anyways, we have similar interests in the "topic" of our tats. i am working off song lyrics mostly. and have recently started thinking seriously about the following:

left arm: "until the last lock breaks" with some sort of image of shackles, oppression, etc....

right arm: "none of us are free", probably with some sort of silhouette type person with arms raised in a "i'm free" type position....

problem is designing it, finding the money, and then going through with permanent marking of my body. maybe in 10 years i'll be a neo-neo-con. haha

lol. I would really like a guy with his left hand raised with a fist like the one up there (but i think thats is right arm?!?) I was also thinking of getting something related to music.....
here are some of my favorit bands:
    Green Day (some of it)
    The Shins
    Frou Frou
    Something Corporate (some of it)
    The Weakerthans
    Franz Ferdinand
Nine Inch Nails (some of it)
    Iron and Wine
    Simon and Garfunckle
    Death Cab for Cutie
    Queens of the Stone Age
    Leonard Cohen

But really i'd like something more revolutionary (hence the Popular Front) and maybe a bit darker.... i really like the style of this flash site...

I wanted a tattoo just like you did, political, and very left wing.

What I ended with a tattered upside down American flag at the base of my neck, and a red star on each of my forearms. I know not very original, but its all I could think off. I will post pics of the flag when I get my camera working again.

Sounds like a hammer-and-sickle is one possibility - then you'll have to decide whether or not you want it forwards (Soviet-style) or backwards (some South American, socialist, and smaller groups - style). Would love to see pics on whatever you decide.

My brother has an "om" or "aum" that I drew/designed right between the shoulder blades on his back. I have a pic if you want to see it.

I don't know if that could be called political or left wing, as it represents something much larger than politics.

I have one, attached below, and want to get another. Not sure what the second one should be though. My current thought is a pheonix - looks cool as hell, and I love the whole rebirth/renewal concept.

Here it is. He got it done in a custom red-brown ink color, so it would fade into a nice, henna color. It's worked out, fortunately:

He does, I haven't spoken to Jesse in a while. I got out of the navy years ago and we fell out of touch. I am not sure if he is even in Hawaii anymore, or the Navy. Unklefunk2 is his Yahoo profile name.

a tattoo is so personal, please take yor time in deciding, make the design yours, dont just grab a premade in the tattoo artists book or off the wall.
Even if you cant sketch, try and sketch out rough ideas, you can always have a better drawer make the final for you.

    Thats my personal opinion.
I do want a tattoo eventually, but I will design it so it is exclusively mine, I dont want anybody elses work on my body, especially since removing them is....

Here's a close up of mine from the day after I got it. Was a custom sketch from a local Houston artist.

The Artist (Brett Osborne) is no longer at the shop (Scorpion Studios), but they still have part of his portfolio up and I thought I would plug him.

    tattoos love 'em

i dont have pictures right now, but i will get some taken shortly to share.

i have a 5"x5" black sun that i drew on my back. a half dollar sized ying yang on my inner left wrist.

but i am planning on a LOT more.... first thing is getting a symbol i am working on drawing onto my write wrist.

then it is a shadow of a man meditating on my lower back. eyes wreathed in flames coming up over his open palms and up my sides.

and i have this whole huge complicated plan for my right shoulder and arm....

lol. i want to see those pictures!

I've been looking at some tattoo books.... some of them are pretty crazy.... Like full body tattoos???? But yeah I'm just looking for a small to medium sized one.

Someone here said something about getting the hammer and sickle tattoo. This appeals to me, but if i ever decide to get a government job.... well.... it won't be pretty, even if i do live in canada. I don't think i'll get that. Also, i'd feel as though i'd be promoting communism, which in my opinion doesn't work very well. I'd actually prefer a left wing Democracy :) . What i'd like is something that opposes the corporations, and giant conglomerates of companies, and banks, and all those things that complicate the government (but doesn't openly say 'i love communism' and blurr the line between whats real and what isn't. What i hate is how much power some of these companies have, and those conspiracies about the FBI and CIA. That stuff scares me. Also heard of the theory that a few really powerfull people control the economy of the world (i forget some of their names, but my history teacher told me about it) That **** just plain scares me.... OH YEAH! I HATE SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS. The USA is going to be able to spy on anyone and anything, anytime... it'll be like 1984.

wow... i wrote a lot... I must somehow capture these feelings and put it into a picture on my back. That won't be hard at all :p

But yeah... i'm going to do some homework now. stupid essay writing course........

(i'm in first year university btw!)

That first tattoo design in the row of four is pretty similar to a symbol used by an extremist hate group. I would be wary of using that one. That's the one thing I get nervous about when looking for tattoos. Being that I am of Norwegian heritage, I have a fondness for many of the viking symbols and the like but so many of them have been co-opted by hate groups that I can't use them (well, I can but it's not worth all the problems it will cause). I made up this pretty cool circle containing all of the runes but being that 3 of them are hate group symbols, I don't think I will get it tattooed on me. So I am trying to find something else that I won't look at in 5 years and ask,"what the hell was I thinking." My right arm is looking awfully plain. It's needs some color.
