    Hi,

I am new to this, but have a problem. I switched my Mac on the other day and every character in the menus and file names text appears as an 'A' with a black box round it. The real problem i have is that i can't even look through the menu's to try and solve the problem! Any ideas of how to solve this please?

Did you delete any font's recently? That's the only thing I can think of?

I have not made any changes to any of my settings for ages. Is there anywhere i can change the font of the menus to check?

Hi, looks like to be a settings issue. Based on your explanation (a screenshot of the issue would be nice of course)

    Go to System Preferences
    Go to Universal Access
Check if Voice Over is enabled
    Disable this

Let me know if this resolved your issue.
