I heard of the free app textfree unlimited
^correct me if I'm wrong, but if I install that app onto my ipod touch, if would only send and receive texts through wifi only right?

Yes, all the apps rewire wifi. Textfree is a great app. They require wifi because they can't run on magic like the iPad.

you have an iPod touch, you have nothing else besides WiFI.

I use TextNow it's only .99 cents. TextFree might be better for iPod users since it gives you a phone #.

Textplus is free and unlimited, and yes it operates through wi-fi, and no, not all apps need to operate through wi-fi.
