You sure it's not that 'fake' new smell they've sprayed onto it to fool you into believing it is new, when infact it's really soiled goods and has been used before?? abit like that 'Turtle Wax New Car Interior Scent' that you can buy in Motor Accessory stores?? heheheh  :p :p

That smell brings back memories of when I started using a Mac and how amazed I was at Mac OS X. Definitely a good smell.

I assume much of it comes from the motherboard as it seems to 'affect' every single Mac with no correlation between the makes of the exterior.

I do not know abou you guys but a moment ago I was in the street and my nose catched some incredible fragance that seems like a thousand paradises together and when I turned around was this cute girl with her mother right beside her here in Times Square... If she was a computer she would be a mac. :D

Yeah i love that smell. I remember when my mum bought a g4 imac a few months ago i told her to savour that new mac smell. I think its a combination of the plastic packaging and the computer itself since i can still smell it on the keyboard of my powerbook. I think i feel a song coming on: "Memories........."

I think the smell is from some of the plastics involved.

Not sure, but I recall reading that the reason "new car smell" doesn't last as long is because some of the fumes from the materials that created the aroma were proved toxic. The manufacturers had to switch to other materials; ergo, new car smell is fleeting.

Are you talking about that smell that comes with almost ANY electronic device? Pop open a Sony DVD package and take a whiff. I love that smell. I use to work at Toys R Us in the security booth that had all the computer video games in there along with handhelds, consoles, etc. It was the best smell in the world.

What smell are you talking about? My powerbook is approaching 6 months old. That thing still has the new mac smell. Are you sure people that you didn't spill anything or spray on your mac?

I live at a Uni residence, my door is wide open, and someone just caught me smelling my Powerbook..... (and he's laughing at me because he now thinks I kiss my computer....)

I think I have some explaining to do. :p

And that new car smell is from the glues they use throughout the interior, I've been told.

People think i am mad when i say i love the smell of a new computer. I can't believe there are people out there who think the same.

What do you do? Vacuum seal it?

    Anyway mine's is long gone...

Anyway its pretty dangerous the smell really, the first day and a half you are basically breathing toxic stuff.

All three of the Apple stores I've visited smell the same.

Is it simply a matter of a couple dozen Macs cooking the same metals and plastics producing the same smell, or is there an actual Apple store official scent?

Anyway, odor is underrated as a memory-jogger and attention grabber.

My mom used Noxema, and that smell always brings me back home.
And I love the smell of a freshly opened can of tennis balls....

"You smell that? Do you smell that? Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that (well maybe PBDEs) . I love the smell of napalm in the morning."

The Google ads below this topic (when I viewed it, anyway) were for odor-removal products. I wonder if that's the first time that's happened at MacRumors.
