To be fair they're asking for god to help guide advances in solar power as well.

And you know that if gas prices go down, it's proof that god exists and answered their prayers. If they stay the same or rise, then "he works in mysterious ways." Also proof.

I give you what went through Gelfin's mind in terrible five minute comic strip form:

Oh, I thought they were just putting them lower, so you could see them better.

C'mon...God already gave us the freaking sun, and now they want his help to use it as well? How lazy can you get? ;)

I keep on picturing some concerned manager telling these people that they can't have a pray-in at the gas station for fear that lightning might strike. :D

Gas prices are at their lowest price for a decade. Oil prices haven't been this low since they were previously. Maybe this religion does work?

Well, if prices start going north I'm sure our BFFs in Saudi will open the spigots.

    First off, 7-year thread revival.

Second, They're still to high until they get down to where they were at least back when Clinton left office, if not earlier than that.

First, doing my bit for the environment.

Oil prices at 40 bucks a barrel so not far until the 90s prices I think. Especially as there's a glut of 3 billion barrels in storage. Maybe they should bury that underground?

I would hope. If we hit 90s prices, we would be better off to a degree. Bad part is that we would see more gas guzzlers (Hummers, less fuel-efficient trucks) on the road.

Good news is that we'd have much lower airfares, and more willingness to travel. Gas on Clinton's last day was $.95/gallon.

Where I was at during his 2nd term (Nebraska), it was as low as $.72/gallon. $.69/gallon for the ethanol blend.

In truth, the US needs high gas prices purely for what you say about wastage. The rest of the world is forced to pay high gas prices so the USA should follow suit.

1999-2000 was pretty much the lowest price in US history, when adjusted for inflation. You're not going to see the actual price go down to those levels again, at least any time soon. As in...you're not going to see $1.00 gas. But, we are getting close to the lower points when adjusted. I know around here, it's about $2.09 a gallon in my neighborhood and somewhere between $2.10 and $2.25 in most areas of the city. It's only higher in the gougey places. Head into South Carolina, and you get $1.74 a gallon. Of course, go to California, and it's over a dollar more a gallon!
