I don't know quite how to feel about this article over at Tom's Hardware. Basically, what they did is removed all the fans from the computer and filled the case with vegtable oil. The result? A totally silent PC.

Maybe if Apple would have known this before they announced the switch to Intel, we could have had Powerbook G5's with built in deep fry.

you have any idea on how much that would weight. If you read the article even they stated that it not a good solution because of a lot of problems with it. It a lot like liquied cooling. Which allow heat to be stored in another place and then allow to have more surface area to tranferfer the heat to the air.

the SHOCK value of this experiment was and has been that you CAN run a computer in something liquid.

everyone upon seeing this thinks it would short, but oil dont conduct so its a MIRACLE!

It seems that motor oil is the preferred liquid to vegetable oil. The only problem is that my cheese sticks don't get as crispy in Pennzoil.

    so wait.

that guy spent thousands of dollars on materials to cool something that couldnt possibly get as hot as todays processors.

cmon Liquid Nitrogen for a 32MB video card and 366Mhz processor!?

it is more a matter of principle. It also an instersting test bed but it look like a fun project to do. I would enjoy doing something like that not because of the cooling power but because it would just be fun to build a device like that

I have noticed that this concept is lost on a large portion of MacRumors members.

That is because everyone here is a sheep. They dare not "think different" from one another.

    Irony?
