Ga Mornin..... "grok" .... geeks and geekettes

I was just a sittin here wonderin about the "Good Life".
Now exactly or approximately what would that be?
I suppose it is probably something different to every
single person but as well it is probably something
we were indoctrinated to accept as well.
Now if we could "reinvent" it perhaps then what
    would it be?
As a child too it was probably something totally
different than what we would now say but say
given ones current knowledge and understanding
and in the context and reality of the current world
what would this "Good Life" be?

    sir

for me, the good life is as follows.
Id be doing something i enjoyed doing, and getting payd well for it. id have a nice apartment in vancouver, or other big coastal city, and be married to an amazing woman. id live comfortably, well, more than comfortably, but not exessivly. id visit my family a few times a year, and travel frequently. id have a new powerbook, ibook, imac, and powermac. (this is a mac forum in any case).
    Id have a nice car.
Now, i realize that most of these things are material, but that is not to say that i um superficial and materialistic. I simply enjoy the finer things in life. Im not saying i couldent be happy living paycheck to paycheck if i had a loving family, im just answering the question on the good life.

of course, i still have a chance to attain this....consdiering im only 16 now.

    Well Interesting

Yup you see differents strokes for different folks
and everybody gettin along and famously
and not so famously at times.....
Well when you're young you do have to acquire
    certain of those material things.....
I recommend waiting a tad and goin with the
better quality though more expensive items
ie: the mac...... (as you get what you pay
    for) still holds pretty true.
Ah that sounds like a decent show.
There have been some similar ones way back
and some movies too about that.
Do you remember "Green Acres" although it was
sort of a lame example I suppose.

I think my "best" time was in the seventies building
a log cabin in a small town in the rockies.
Also "landscaping" a house on Vancouver Island.
And living out at my dad's cabin at the lake
    in the eighties.
I guess I am a bit the artsy fartsy type too so
I have enjoyed the creative aspects as well.
I think being creative or exercising ones creativity
is necessary for the good life too.

I can think of a few things that would make life better...

*A reduction in traffic or an increase in the number of freeways.

*A huge reduction in the cost of living, there was a time in CA where people made more in a year than their houses cost. Having to work less while living better would be nice, though I could always move to the Ozarks I guess

    * Spread things out a little. New housing developments have no yards, no room to go outside and enjoy and space. Land has become much to valuable to waste on anything but square footage for your house. Contributes too much to the overcrowding and traffic.

    * Greenbelts. Some space inbetween cities to break up the sea of suburbia. This would also help with congestion and you wouldn't have to drive 150 miles to get a decent outdoors experience.

    Just some small things.

The good life... Tough one. I'm only 17, so I guess I don't really know what's achievable, or what I should shoot for... First off I guess I need to figure out what I want to to job-wise! If I can find a job that I like going to every day, and that pays good money (I'm sorry, but I would like a supersweet computer! :D ) I'd also like a girl that I wouldn't feel uncomfortable with, and that makes me feel good about myself. I wanna live in a city somewhere... Chicago would be sweeeet! That's all I can come up with... We'll see how it all plays out ;)

I'd have unlimited amounts of money, and use this to buy NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox. I'd then make myself extreme president of production and choose all the new shows, and get rid of all the crap. I'd work on getting rid of censorship and puritanism in television.

The good life for me would be filled with a constant variety of experiences:

I want to be able to rock climb the cliffs overlooking a malaysian coast, to hike up mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and see the snows before they all melt in 20 years.
I want to scuba dive in the great barrier reef and to trek through as much of the great wall of china as I can manage.
I want to coast in a glider on a lazy summer afternoon and sky dive (by myself) the very next day.
I want to be able to fall asleep in a beachside house to the sounds of waves crashing into the sand and I want to be surprised with my next adventure.

Most of all, I want to work for all of this, so that appreciate these experiences more.

Oh, charming an interesting, beautiful and intelligent woman into falling madly in love with me would go somewhere in that list too ;)

    Pretty simple really

A decent job you get payed enough for. Apparently it's not the huge checks but the big checks that make you feel good.
A fulfilling relationship and a family.
    Having a purpose in life.

Now I have none of them but I am working on it.

Having a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ, allow myself to have total trust. To accomplish that would alleviate everything else.

More time with wife, family, and friends. To be healthy.
