Im not sure why you refer to it as this.... It is a money maker......

Sleeper in what way? IT provides an alternative to those who choose not to purchase into the expensive iPhone game and pay £899 totally overall for the minimum contract....

Sleeper in the sense that it doesnt sell much and is merely there to make a little side-money?

Well let me tell you once SDK is released, iPod touch sales will increase...

It's a sleeper, as in few recognize its full value or potential.

    I Think You're Wrong...

Although the iPod Touch hasn't gotten as much attention as the other iPods and the iPhone (obviously), there still is that gap that Apple had to see fulfilled. And they did it perfectly... And as for people who actually own them, I know many of my friends off the top of my head who own them... so I'm sure that Apple is getting fairly good sales on these things....
All that being said, I want a freaking iPhone!!! haha...

Too true. Even Apple didn't realize what they had on their hands, at first. But you can bet that there's plenty of midnight oil being burned in Cupertino over the iTouch right now.

A very interesting article - I wonder if some of the earlier posters in this thread actually read it?

It will be interesting indeed to see where the touch and its successors go from here. I've always been a laptop chap myself but for the first time am seriously considering a desktop as my next machine with a future iPhone / iPod touch revision as my travelling companion

If the article writer is right... when would we see the new micro-Mac ??

I was hoping they present it in second half of 2008... would this be possible?

    Otherwise I would buy a Nokia N810 :-( ... Apple hurry up!

    I think they knew.

I had some friends and their kids over to the house last weekend. I showed my touch to their son (I think he's 11). He ran off with the thing and spent the next two hours playing with it -- despite the fact that it has no games on it! He had a ball with Google maps and watching YouTube videos. He thought it was way cooler than his Gameboy.

    Oh, Apple knew all right.

Although the article doesn't exactly explain their choice of the term "sleeper," I see good reason to use the term. Everyone on the planet knows what an iPhone is, but when I mention the iPod Touch almost nobody knows what it is. I suspect a lot of people seeing an iPod Touch--even in TV ads--don't pay attention and just think it's an iPhone.
