I heard someone say that the New GTA San Andreas is going to come out on Mac.

Does anyone know if this is true?

    Thank You

    Kind Regards

Didn’t hear anything like this yet and I doubt it very much. It could possibly come out some time in the future, but not in the next months.

Not gonna happen anytime soon. Whoever said that was jst shootin the the breeze. The first two haven't even com to Mac yet.
Besides with a pocket burning game like the GTA series, it's not worth it for them to port it to mac for 2,000 more copies sold. If people want it the will get the PS2 version, or wait and get the better PC and Xbox versions. But who cares, its a waste of money anyway.

Even if it did come out for macs, it would be cheaper to drop $150 on a ps2 than upgrade to the $500 GPU (+CPU, +RAM, etc) that would be required to run that beastly, un-optimized beast. Games ported to macs just don't have the optimization effort put in them...macs are great (and could be great gaming rigs) but other options are just better for gaming.

I've been playing GTA:VC for the past week on the PS2, and i just can't stand how crappy TV gaming is.... I've been PC/Mac gaming for too long to admire PS2 games. don't know if i'll buy another one... they're the same price, and look crappier.

Last night at 7, I got in the 400 person line to get my copy a day early. Luckily, I paid in advance and got in quick. I started playing San Andreas @ 7:30 and didn't think to stop for a while. When I did stop it was 3 in the morning!!!

This game is frickin' incredible. Skydiving, learjets, helicopters, horse racing, car mods (nitrous!!!), bmx, skate parks, casinos, driveby's, LA, San Fran, Vegas, Samuel L. Jackson, boats, BASE jumping, 10+ hours of tunes (Snoop, Dre, willie, STP, etc.), variable weather, trains, trolleys, stealth break-ins....

In the words of IGN "This is the BEST PS2 game ever. Period."

I would recommend buying a PS2 just to play San Andreas.

Oh yeah, supposedly it takes 150+ hours to beat fully, ~60 hours to complete the story.

The best bit: San Andreas isn't a city like the previous games.

It's a state. A whole state! MASSIVE. Massive as in, it will take over half an hour to drive from one end to the other, in a fast car, dodging traffic, and not stopping.

I'd rather wait to see if it'll come to the Xbox first. I've played games in high resolution on my parent's Dell with a really insane LCD screen but it still doesn't compare to some of the games I've played on the PS2 and Xbox that support progressive scan in high definition. Has anyone played Final Fantasy on the PS2, StarOcean, or even Grand Theft Auto Vice City on the Xbox in high definition? It's just insane how gorgeous it looks.

    OK, update time:

I'm about 12 hours in, and have unlocked San Fierro (San Fran). There is SO much to do in this game. I decided to make one lap around both cities and time it. I used a goldwing like motorcycle. All in all, 35 minutes!!!

The trucking missions are cool, but my favorite thing to do is get a parachute, steal a plane, and skydive to my destinations. The story is riveting, and has tons of twists and turns.

Mt. Chiliad is HUGE. There is a mountain biking mission on top, and a ramp. It's about a 15 second freefall off the top.

Buy this game. Period. It's that good. Sorry, but this is going to beat Halo 2 and HL2 out for game of the year (I've already bought them both, so don't flame me).

    totally unrelated:

Kuyu, are you playing CS:S any?

I didn't enjoy CounterStrike as much as I was apparently supposed to, but for some reason, I really like it now. I've been playing it every night when I get home from work...I think GTA:SA is going to have to wait, for me....

You can fly the plane or dos someone do it for you and you jump out? What kind of plane? Jet or prop? How many mission do you need to do to unlock San Fran?

My friend just got it, and we put some cheats in to get a feel for the game before we actually started it. When we used a cars float cheat to drive a car over the water to Las Vegas (or whatever they call it) we automatically got 4 stars! I guess we'll just have to wait and take our time. I feel cheated :p The game is awesome! It's sooo huge, and you have to build up your strength and skills, etc. It's sooo cool!!!

Grand Theft Auto peaked at 2.

I played 3, but it got rather boring after say...an hour or so.

If I bought a PS2, it'd be for one game, and one game alone:

    Katamari Damacy.

THE best game on the PS2.

And after I was done with that, the PS2 would be relegated to a life such as....

    -Doorstop
    -Coaster
    -Fixing a wobbly table.

GTA:SA wont even be out on the PC for at least another 7-8 months, some people are saying Summer 2005...so I highly doubt we will see a Mac version any time soon... if ever.

anyway, I love this game... it is probably THE best PS2 game ive ever played... and I thought it couldnt get too much better than Vice City! Rockstar went wayyy over the top with this one.

hehe, I also got my game a day early. I was reading on gtagaming.com about how ebgames was going to be selling the game after 7PM on monday, and im like crap, i didnt preorder it... but I decided to call anyway and inquire about it, and the guy on the other end was really nice, I was like "is there anything I can do to get the game tonight? I can come right now" and he was like "you can come right now? sure then! come on over!" and im like "cool man, see ya in 2 min". yup, i got there, there was no parking what-so-ever (small ebgames in outdoor shopping center next to a resturaunt). there were people literarly running to the door to get inside. it wasnt too crowded surprisingly, but there was a line at the counter... all buying... you guessed it, San Andreas.

I really disagree - GTA and GTA2 were great games in their own right, but GTA 3 was simply revolutionary, not only for the series but for gaming in general. This is juts my opinion of course, but GTA3 was definitely the highlight of the series for me, and one of my favorite games of all time. Of course, I love epic, huge games, and obviously some people do not, which is fair enough.

I truly wish Rockstar would port GTA 2 to the mac... I'm having such a good time with friends playing this game over a lan... it's one of the best network games I've ever experienced... the battles are intense, and the cars' handling is just so right :)

But it's probably not going to happen...

In response to the two questions:

    1) I've been playing CS:S some, but I suck at it. I really just want to play HL2. It does look and feel amazing though!

    2) Airplanes: Both!!! You can buy plane tickets at Juank Air and ride from city to city. Or, if you like, you can fly a dodo (with wings this time) and a learjet. However, in the San Fierro airport I saw a P-51 Mustang (WWII fighter), and what looks like a DC-9. While flying you push triangle and he jumps out. You can steer him while in freefall and while parachuting. Make sure you have a chute before getting in the plane though!!!

***Hint: Go to the tallest building in Los Santos and get on top (there's a yellow arrow at one entrance). Grab the chute on top. Get back down. Drive to the airport's pilot entrance, on the north side of the airport. The guy will say you need a pilot's license to enter. Park your car next to the guard station, jump on top of it, then climb on top of the station. Now you're in the airport. There's a dodo right there and a learjet at the west end of the northern most runway. Enjoy!

I just figured it out on how to get in. Do you know where is the military base and does it have a fighter jet? When I entered San Fierro(banned area at the moment), I got 4 wanted stars and they sent out a fighter to shoot me down in both the prop and learjet. when a missile hit me on the prop where it hit me I lose that gear, for example a missile hit my right wing and I loss the right flap. The learjet is harder to shoot down since it is so darn fast, and nothing breaks after being shot.

EDIT: Why is everyone double posting?

    How many players?

    Hey guys,
Just bought the game on the way into work, but I'm now stuck here until 5:30. I can almost wait to play it, but I have to know one thing now: What the hell is this "1 or 2 player" info on the back of the box? Is that a mis-print? Not heard a two-player mode mentioned anywhere.
