Apple recently updated the displays with better specs, so the other sites are probably quoting the original specs. That said, Apple is still getting rid of their remaining stock of the lower-specced displays, and it can be tough to tell which one you're getting when you buy from them.

The apple site is correct. The specs on the ACD were bumped not too long ago, i just can't remember when. Other sites may still be selling the ACDs with the old specs or they've just neglected to update their sites.

Unfortunately that's not entirely true. There have been multiple reports on here of people buying displays at an Apple store and finding out that they got one of the old ones. Ordering online from Apple might get your a new one for sure though. I can't remember the subtle ways you can tell the difference between the two, but I remember something about the new ones saying that they require OS X 10.4.6...it's on the box or in the documentation somewhere. Don't quote me on that though.

It was introduced with the Mac Pro's, beginning of August. You can check the serial number of an ACD by filling it in at Apple's website somewhere under support. Then it gives back the specs of that display/product. There are a couple of threads about this in the Mac periphals section.

I also bought one from an Apple Store (not really an Apple Store, because we don't have Apple Stores from Apple, but they are in private hands and can call themselves Apple Stores), but they gave me an old one. So I returned it.

Got an old one here as well but not sure if I should bother sending it back.

It's great as it is I must admit.

I believe I just bought an old one as well but its really outstanding. No dead pixels or any problems, I think asking for more would just be greedy :)
