So i was reading the Spammer gets five years thread and i had an idea.

i decided to register a gmail account and see if i could fill it (2gb) with nothing but spam

i registered thespamproject@gmail.com and plan to go arround the internet posting it as many places i can. at all the ads, all the sweepstakes, everything, and see if i can fill it to the brim

anyone who wants to participate feel free. this will be made much easier if it is a collaborative effort, all it takes to join is to start spreading the address.
thanks in advance for any help

Shouldn't take long, sign up for a few dating sites (especially the *ahem* interesting ones) and you'll be swamped with spam. :D ;)

Then when it gets all filled up, you can run some sort of randomiser on it a few zillion times and see how many lines of shakespeare you can create...

    Recycled spam.

Once you're done, it'd be nice to see how much paper would have been used if regular paper advertisements (brochures, junk mail etc.) were used. I don't think you should print each email, but I reckon one page for each should be roughly equivocal.

I humbly refer you to some sites which have posted trackback spam on my blog (see the "comments" section). Good luck in your endeavor.

Be sure to click as many "opt opt" links in spam as you can. Then they will put you on even more lists!

I must've been lucky, because I actually find that opt-out links do work most of the time, and I once got spam at an email address from hundreds a day down to maybe 1 or 2 per week.

I've already subscriped to the first chunk.

Some don't like the @gmail.com though.

Linkety to a giant list of sites to subscribe to spam! I actually Googled for "sign up spam" and this came up...

If you are willing to invest a few dollars, buy something from a spammer. I'm sure they never let you go once that happens.

i wonder if it'd be possible for us to set some sort of preference in mail so that it forwards everything from the junk folder to thespamproject@gmail.com ?

But that's kinda short-circuting the whole project, isn't it? It isn't the projects spam.... its yours.

I think it would be more fun to get pure spam and not other peoples that is forwarded to the account. But that's just me.

This sounds like fun! You've got my help. I'm looking forward to updates.

I signed it up for one of the Gratis "free*.com" sites. That should get it a healthy dose!

I'm not overly concerned by the content of the spam, as the most i will be reading is the subject line, and im sure i can handle anything some of the more "interesting" sites would use as a subject line.

Pr0n spam would probably have pictures too which is always helpfull in eating up disk space.

I remember reading someone else attempting a project to see how much spam they could get, but I can't remember where. It's been a couple years though, so it'd be interesting to see how it turned out.
