how strange does the urban landscape look without the written word... fantastic concept, beautifully executed. ;)

that's almost unsettling! imagine being illiterate, and how alienating the current urban landscape could seem.

It must be horrible illiterate, although to some degree it's similar visiting a city in Japan or China and being completely dumbfounded by those written languages.

I love how the removal of the type though, makes everything more aesthetically pure.

    very cool.

it looks so barren in a few images, but so much better. odd.

Those are very nice urban pictures. A chronicling of history.

Yeah, it almost seems like text detracts... like an eyesore.

I'd like to see one taken looking up from the street in Times Square.

Having visited Taiwan, I can assure you that the bewilderment of seeing a completely foreign language is completely different than seeing the purity of form that these images represent. In fact I would go so far to say that (at least the areas I saw) that Chinese signs are more distracting than English signs.

Wow. I liked it. It made the environments seem so much quieter, less shrill. The picture of the perfume/lotion counter was especially pleasing--each bottle with its own colorful picture and no other markers. I've had interesting dreams like that.

    I know that... ;)

I was referring to how it is possible to a degree, to experience what it must be like to be illiterate (if an English only speaker visits for example a town in Japan) how the complete lack of understanding of such a visually rich and decorative language and how this is comparable to being illiterate with regards to the English language. ;)
