They make software for the Mac?

Was in CompUSA yesterday (Garden City, NY) and they rearranged their Apple section. Until now, they had only a few software titles on display, mainly Apple stuff. They now have a whole section of Mac software (OK, was a pretty small selection) and a whole rack of Mac games (about 40 titles). They also upgraded their hardware displays to most current offerings and have a bunch of accessories too. Nice to see them really marketing Apple products.

Hopefully that will be the trend for CompUSA - the stores where I live have what I call "The AppleGhetto."

I remember an in-store audio campaign they had where they were talking about the "hundreds of Mac titles" they stocked. As I listened I looked at maybe a total of 75 boxes in a well-stocked store. They didn't even manage to have any of the hybrid offerings on the Mac shelves.

They're being paid to have the special section. I wish they'd do something to make it special.

In all fairness, I'm happy even to see a moderately big collection of software for a platform that, after all, has 5% of the market. If you consider that perfectionists can always visit their nearby Apple Store, I guess CompUSA isn't too bad.

But I guess it does give the average "browser" the impression that there just aren't too many Mac titles.

I'd bet that their "sudden" interest in Mac software is a result of some kind of pressure/contractual arrangement put upon them by Apple. Apple does like to "lean" on its retailers quite a bit.

They need to get some staff that knows WTF they're talking about. I can't tell you the number of times I've heard their "Mac Specialists," misinform people about Macs and then steer them towards a crappy HP machine.

Still better than PC World here in the UK - they had to ask me how to turn a Mac on.

The Apple Store- surely you jest. They have the worst selection of software anywhere. I could never understand this.
