Is it possible to install a third party SSD in a SATA ADM and boot from it? I haven't bought the drive yet, so I can buy what ever brand/model that works.

Since no one responded since yesterday, I would say that a name-brand SSD (such as Intel or Samsung) should work. Don't try to put a SATA-III drive into a SATA-I or SATA-II port, though. Apple hardware doesn't seem to like that.

Just purchase your SSD from a dealer with a liberal return policy and you should be fine.
