I've had problems with my fans lately (crazy loud noises) and I'm about to send the macbook pro off to service. For the past few days It's idled between 60-70 degrees F. Now tonight I look at the thing and it reads like this:

This can't be right can it? I mean the processor would be fried wouldn't it? And the laptop doesn't feel any hotter than usual. I mean its really hot, but no wear near 150 degrees. I'm not sure what the deal is, but I'm kinda worried.

Are you sure you weren't measuring celsius before?

60-70F is 15-20˚C, which is very cool. I would expect it to be 60-70˚C. 160F is 71˚C, which is pretty normal for the MBP CPU. A high temperature would be in the high 80s-90s˚C, ie. close to 200F. The core duo is rated for up to 100˚C

Believe it or not, thats normal. My Mini is running at.. *launches Temperture Monitor* 140 Degrees. Yours is running at a perfect temp. I agree with Plinden. Are you sure you weren't measuring Celsius?

Yup, my Macbook is currently at 147 degrees farenheit. It's running off battery and I'm just running Safari and Comic Life, nothing to big. I think it's normal.

Definitely sounds like a celsius vs. fahrenheit situation.

My friend has a dual 2.5 G5, and when he was doing some crazy stuff with it he got one of the heatsinks up to nearly 300ºF

FWIW my 1.5 PB is running iTunes, Photoshop, Safari and Preview @ 118ºF

HAHA! You guys are right. Sorry. I had it C and never changed it to F. I wasn't thinking about the letter, just the number. Thanks for the enlightenment guys!

I haven't had temperatures higher than 65 Celsius.
