    Couple questions about my tibook.
I have 512 mb ram should I get more? I do some photoshop type work.
Is there a way to protect my screen. I have a few marks on it, and I don't want it to get worse. You can only see them from a angle but I am a little protective of my baby.

There is _no_ substitute for more RAM. Having the full complement is one of the best ways to keep OS X ticking along smoothly. And if you P'shop, you'll see it right away. Also, go with something name-brand (Edge, Crucial, etc.) -- the instances of kernel panics is much lower.

A few companies make screen pads. Other World Computing carries screen pads for PowerBooks:

I don't have one, but they've gotten good reveiws elsewhere.

I also highly recommend maxing out RAM. It does wonders!

I have a OWC screen protector for my PowerBook, and after a full year of use, my screen doesn't have a hint of marks. Look around for a product called iKlear (I think OWC also sells it). iKlear was able to clean up most (if not all) of my friend's screen marks on his powerbook. If you do a couple of iKlear treatments, it will look almost good as new. I think the protector is a must to keep your screen looking nice for the duration of your computer's lifetime. I have the full-sized one, not just the keyboard cover.

Definitely, buy both. And you can from OWC. Enjoy.

Another vote for OWC and their LSPs. My TiBooks love 'em. :)

JR Hill do a really nice leather screen protector, look here:

It's designed for the 15, but it works well on the 17 too, it covers the entire working area and doesn't slip around like some other products.

    sleep and screen protectors

I was reading another thread that said you shouldn't use the screen protectors if you are going to 'sleep' the powerbook, only when it's shut down. Is that true? Will the screen protector put pressure on the keys or something and turn the 'book back on when you close the screen.

Sorry if this seems like a silly question, but I'm really new to notebooks...

Also, has anyone used or seen the acmemade screen covers, they have a wrap around design that might be nice if the TiBook's paint is really as delicate as everyone says...

I use a screen protector and have no problems with sleeping my PowerBooks. They aren't usually thick/solid enough to effect the keys.

I spoke with the iKlear folks at MWNY about these questions. First, I think I'm sold on iKlear's cleaning products for cleaning the LCD surfaces. You can throw a couple of their wipes in your laptop bag.

Second, they don't recommend putting cloths between the keyboards and the screen. Most Apple keyboards do not touch the screen; make sure the keyboard is properly locked down. There is little clearance; the cloths which are being sold are too thick. They recommend using a piece of paper, and always putting it in with the same side up.

I've been using two sheets of plain paper from the copy machine and it works very well. Plus, if you need a bit of note paper, there it is :) It hasn't interfered with sleep mode.

Also get RAM that is CL2 spec, it is 10-20% faster than the CL3 spec.
