Tiger (10.4.6) Install Error on G4

    I purchased a used G4 PowerMac tower about a month ago which came loaded with 10.4 but no install disks. I began installing the 10.4.10 update and it crashed. It would not boot, instead went consistently to the panic screen, and so I didn't have much choice except to format the drive.

    The computer came with a CD drive, not a DVD drive, so I installed and ran Ubuntu 7.04 on it until I could get a DVD drive. Now that I have a DVD drive, I have tried the following to no avail, and I have included all the system details:

    PowerMac G4 1.07 GHz Single Core
    Maxtor 120 GB HDD
    1024 GB SDRAM (in 2x512MB sticks)

    Came with: Sony CD-R/RW Drive Unit Model No. CRX140E, jumpers set to IDE-Master

    I installed a: LiteON DVD Writer, Model No. LH-20A1H186C, jumpers set to IDE-Master

    Boots Fedora 7 PPC install disk from DVD but doesn't seem to properly recognize the MacOS X 10.4.6 install disk that I have that came with my intel-based MacBook:

    Instead displays the following:

    I may be able to get my hands on a retail version of 10.4.x but need to know if this might solve the problem.

    You can only use the install media that came with your MacBook with a MacBook it won't work anything else and certainly not a PPC based machine.

    A retail copy of Tiger should work fine.

    Thanks, this definitely eliminates a LOT of confusion for me. I figured as much, but wanted to be sure. Good to know, I think I have an ADC 10.4 set of disks around somewhere...
