T-Mobile has introduced a new plan called T-Mobile ONE [PDF] that offers unlimited talk, text, and 4G LTE data for $70 per month. A second line can be added for $50 per month, while up to six more lines can be added for an additional $20 per month each. The total cost for a family of four, for example, would be $160 per month.

T-Mobile ONE has some caveats to consider. First, unlimited video is limited to 480p standard definition for all services, with unlimited HD video available for $25 per month extra per line. Additionally, tethering is limited to 2G speeds, with 5GB of high-speed tethering available as a $15 add-on.

T-Mobile's existing Simple Choice plan with unlimited talk, text, and 4G LTE data costs $95 per month and includes unlimited HD video and 14GB of LTE tethering. The carrier also offers 2GB, 6GB, and 10GB of 4G LTE for $50, $65, and $80 respectively. These plans will remain available for a short time for new customers.

T-Mobile also clarified that, as with its Simple Choice plans, customers using the most data -- specifically the highest 3 percent -- may see their data traffic prioritized behind other users once they cross a threshold of around 26GB of data during their billing month. The carrier noted that throttling will only occur at specific times and places where there is network congestion.

The new plan includes usual T-Mobile perks such as Simple Global, Mobile Without Borders, Wi-Fi Unleashed, Stock Up, and T-Mobile Tuesdays. T-Mobile will also pay up to $650 in early termination fees to customers who switch over from AT&T, Verizon, or Sprint through its Carrier Freedom program.

T-Mobile ONE will be available for new postpaid customers on September 6, while new prepaid customers will be able to get the plan "in the future." Existing customers have the option to keep the Simple Choice plans they have or switch to T-Mobile ONE. The plan costs $5/month extra per line without AutoPay enabled.

T-Mobile follows in the footsteps of new data plans from AT&T and Verizon.

That family plan cost doesn't sound too bad actually, though I have nothing to compare it against since I am alone with my cell phone plan. I have to wonder how those caveats for the extra $25 would rub some people.

It's always the same, isn't it?

(Read headline)

Wow, that sounds like an awesome deal!!

(Read additional provisions below, like the tethering fee, paying more for HD video, etc.)

Darnit, it's another **** show.

Same thing with the AT&T plans announced yesterday; they sound great at first but the per-device fees went up. :p

This is the first time I've ever seen a plan from T-Mobile where I didn't feel like I should immediately switch away from AT&T... limiting my video quality and my tether speed seems like pretty big asterisks to me.

Starting this weekend, I'll be paying $60 per month for 6 GB of data and $20 per line... so $100 for 6 GB of data shared between two lines.

This new T-Mobile plan would cost me $70 for the data + first number, plus $50 for my second line, so $120 for "unlimited" data where my video and tethering is crippled. For an extra $40, I could un-cripple those.

I'm sorry, but what the hell T-Mobile? What's with all these add-on fees? That's a very carrier behavior - what happened to being the un-carrier?

The 5gig/2g tethering and 26gig cap, makes this "unlimited" deal feel very limited.

But I applaud the attempt. Anything that gets us closer to true cable cutting is always welcomed.

I don't think this plan is for people like us. The average person doesn't know, doesn't care, or can't tell the difference between 480p and 1080p on a smartphone. They are happy enough to have unlimited LTE data without overages with a fairly simple pricing structure. I'm sure most users don't tether, so that doesn't matter to them either. $160/month for unlimited LTE data for a family of four is great. Luckily I got the plan a few months ago that was Unlimited LTE for four lines for $150/month with no HD video restrictions and 14GB/month of tethering....So I'm happy.

Well, I'm glad I have my 2 lines of unlimited data for 100 bucks a month. Oh, they already include tethering data and all HD video... Geez, T-Mobile...

Same. When I signed up on 9/20/15, the rep told me that "the CEO [John Legere] just announced that this unlimited plan is good for at least two years." Hoping that remains the case. I opted out of Binge On so I'm enjoying truly unlimited everything, including HD video, for $100/mo for two lines. It's disappointing that they're making HD video a pricy additional cost, but I understand that they're trying to keep from becoming oversaturated during this period of rapid growth.

Well, I feel lucky now..
Here in Ireland I pay 15€/mo for 30GB of 4G data (tethering allowed) and I don't know how many minutes/text because I mainly use FaceTime and WhatsApp.
Speed could be better, but.. I won't complain! :)

And...there goes net neutrality. So far T-Mobiles anti-NN deals have been in favor of the user, so people have turned a blind eye to the practices. This one is far more grey in terms of benefiting users

this plan is for people who use lots of data. Your AT&T plan is 6 GB between 2 lines for $100 (3 GB/person). Sounds like you don't use that much data. T-Mobile's would be $160 and unlimited (or up to 26 GB per line).

so 3GB/person on AT&T or 26GB/person on TMobile.
