To mount the unmountable....

I've got a drive that, when I plug it in (USB), I get the attached message. This drive has worked in the past, but may have been pretty severely damaged.

I'd like to just run some basic Data Rescue to try to get some contents back, but I (think I) need to get the disk mounted first.

Is there a utility that can force-mount an otherwise-unmountable volume? (I wouldn't mind paying a bit but I'm not looking to go broke on this.)

Crap, I also hate to lose porn to stuff like that HEHE. J/k
If you bring it to the shop, they might recover stuff out of it. But I don't know how much it would cost though.

Click Ignore, then open up Disk Utility. Select the disk in the left-hand column, then go to the Options menu, then choose Mount. That will mount any disk that is even remotely within the realm of possibility.

Volumes don't have to be mounted to repair them- in fact Norton et al. usually unmount the volume before they set to work anyway.

Click ignore, and the drive should still be available in the repair program of your choice (although it may not list any volumes on the drive until after (hopefully) they are repaired).

:D Reminds me of the tune by Tom Leher, Smut:

...I've never quibbled if it was ribald --
I would devour where others mearly nibbled!
As the judge remarked the day he acquitted my aunt Hortance,
"To be smut it must be utt-erly without redeeming social importance"...

All books can be indecent books though recent books are bolder,
for filth -- I'm glad to say -- is in the mind of the beholder.
When correctly viewed, everything is lewd!
I could tell you things about Peter Pan and the Wizard of Oz -- there's a dirty old man!
