Strange!!!
Could you write down your procedure?
Do you have v1.15 of 'fwupd'-file?
Did you 'mount' the drive? [which Linux did you use?]
I see. So not - like me - the Macbook Unibody late 2008 but a recent one. Tricky. Though strange that PCLinux does not support them.PCLinux at first but it doesn't support the new MBPs
But then the rest should work?!so i used the latest release of Ubuntu 11.04 and that worked.
What about putting the file on a CD-ROM? (and then change the CD while the Live-Linux-System is up and running?)I then copied the fwupd file to the desktop from the USB (Ubuntu doesn't handle permissions for USB thumb drives well) and made it read/write-able.
'unsupported drive' concerning the Vertex 3 or 'unsupported drive' concerning the USB-drive?Navigated to the Desktop using cd .., enabled root/sudo, then executed the file ./fwupd /dev/sda. It says updating drive..hen comes back with update FAILED. unsupported drive.
Tried both 32 and 64 bit versions but no dice.
Vertex. I even ejected the USB just to be sure and still the same error. Did hdparm -I /dev/sd* to check i got the drive label right which was indeed sda but still no dice.
did you re-mount the USB drive again afterward?
try something not logic but still:
use the explorer/finder/however-it's-called in Ubuntu to locate the USB-drive and click on it. it will probably than mount. afterward change to Terminal again and repeat your procedure of ./fwupd ... et cetera.
I know it sounds strange but still: give it a try!
Tried all those. For anything i tried (mounts, ejects re-mount, reboots, i cd into and out of the folder just to be sure. No worries i'll just find a Win 7 system later on and do it then
Have the exactly same problems with this SSD.
13" MacBook Unibody late 2008 and Vertex 3.
I think the SATA II speed is OK as it's my hardware limitation.
BUT....
Shipped with 2.02 firmware version and got this after replaced the HDD:
Link Speed: 3 Gigabit
Negotiated Link Speed: 1.5 Gigabit
AJA test (128 MB):
Write: 45.0 MB/s
Read: 77.4 MB/s
* Updated to 2.08 firmware version ( Jun 19th ) and nothing was changed.
* Tested in SL 10.6.7 and Lion DP4. Got the same result.
* SMC reset (press the power button for 5s without power and battery) doesn't help.
* Re-update to 2.08 doesn't help.
* OCZ support said it's problem from Apple.
The leading SSD manufactory? Are u kidding me ?
strange: update auf 2.06 hat's bei mir gemacht!
Hi,
sorry for only posting the 'how to' now, but I was travelling for an extended weekend ;-), without access to the Internet. Of course I will share my research with pleasure.
1. I downloaded PCLinuxOS (found through OCZ-forum.de-Site / although only their 'alternative technique' it proved to be the only one working):
http://spout.ussg.indiana.edu/linux/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/live-cd/pclinuxos-kde-2010.12.iso
2. Burn the ISO to a CD-ROM. I used the 'Burn'-Software.
3. download the Linux-Update-Tool from OCZ:
http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/f...CZ-SandForce-Linux-based-firmware-update-tool
Version 1.15 worked for me! (the version 1.13 from the German OCZ-Website did not work!, so go for v1.15)
4. Unzip the Linux-Update-Tool and put it on an USB-Stick.
5. Put burned CD-ROM in MacBook Unibody Late 2008 ... and shut down.
Reboot with the key 'c' pressed when switching on computer to boot from CD-ROM.
6. Put USB-Stick in USB-Port [you will have to mount it. by clicking on it in KDE it should work]
7. Go to "Terminal"
8. 'su' - become super-user for 'root'. password for root is 'root'!
9. some directory juggling should start: you need to locate the file 'fwupd' on the USB-stick. in the current version I had I used the 'change directory' command "cd .." to go out of directories until the folder '/media/'. Then I did 'cd /linux32' and then 'cd /fwupd' (that's where the file 'fwupd' resides).
10. execute the following command: "./fwupd /dev/sda"
do not forget to put a 'blank' between the command and "/dev/..."
So this should work. Of course I can not take any responsability for any damage (though I think that it's safe ;-) ) ... so do your back-up of your data before!!! [I used Carbon Copy Cloner for this, though I did not need my back-up because everything worked flawless at the end ]
So I hope I could help you all! Enjoy a high-speed MacBook!
