This is the 7th edition of my semi-annual analysis of the MacRumors Top 50 Posters.

Previous "Top 50 Posters Extrapolated" threads:
    2003: July
    2004: January, July
    2005: January, July
    2006: January

The legend of column headings follows the chart. My comments and analysis follow in the next post.

Measurements were taken yesterday. I've computed these numbers just for fun and to be a point of discussion. The rules clearly prohibit posting to pad your post count and I'm one of the enforcers of that rule, despite my interest in seeing how the numbers turn out.

Comments on the Current Top 50 Posters chart

    --- Length of membership ---

Mean average: 39.0 months (up 2.7 since 6 months ago)
Standard deviation: 14.9 months (up 2.0 since 6 months ago)

    Highest: jefhatfield, 71.8 months
    Second-highest: eyelikeart, 66.0 months
Second-lowest: katie ta achoo, 14.0 months
    Lowest: dmw007, 13.2 months

Number of members in the Top 50 by length of membership:
    between 5 and 6 years: 4 members (up 2)
    between 4 and 5 years: 12 members (up 6)
    between 3 and 4 years: 11 members (down 9)
    between 2 and 3 years: 14 members (up 4)
    between 1 and 2 years: 9 members (down 2)
less than 1 year: 0 members (down 1)

    --- Changed members ---

Seven new members joined the Top 50 list:
    devilot (#35), clayj (#41), Hector (#43), raggedjimmi (#45), katie ta achoo (#47), grapes911 (#48), dmw007 (#50)
None made it to the Top 25.

Seven members are no longer in the Top 50 list (previous ranks are shown in parens):
    krossfyter (#38), Powerbook G5 (#44), virividox (#45), Dont Hurt Me (#47), cb911 (#48), jxyama (#49), stoid (#50)
This list includes the "Bottom 4" of the previous Top 50.

    --- Changes in rank ---

Highest rise in rank, up 21 slots:
    iGary

    Next highest:
yellow (up 15), CanadaRAM (up 14), Applespider (up 11)

Highest loss in rank, down 13 slots:
    iJon
    He explained it here.

    Next highest:
    AlphaTech (down 12)

Six members managed to retain their position in the Top 50 list:
    Mr. Anderson (#1), wdlove (#2), Nermal (#17), nagromme (#33), Counterfit (#39), SiliconAddict (#42)

dmw007, #50 on the list, had a narrow margin over Dont Hurt Me, who with 4313 posts missed the Top 50 list by only 17 posts.

    --- Changes in the Top 10 ---

wdlove kept his #2 spot despite not having posted since November 2005.

eyelikeart, long-time holder of the #3 spot but now inactive, was passed by mad jew, Doctor Q, and edesignuk. Perhaps some of you saw the screen capture on May 25, 2006 when eyelikeart, edesignuk, and Doctor Q all had 12114 posts.

jsw (#8) and iGary (#10, no doubt dizzy from his rapid ascent from #31) joined the Top 10.

bousozoku, despite an increase of over 50% in post rate, has dropped to #11, continuing his alternating on-again-off-again Top 10 presence over the past 2 years. jefhatfield, who has been in the #5 to #9 range as long as I've been measuring, has finally left the Top 10 and is now #13, despite a slight increase in post rate.

--- Posts in the last 6 months ---

Note: This section excludes members who were not in my stats 6 months ago, since I don't have their post histories.

Highest number of posts in 6 months:
mad jew, with 6737 (up from his 6310 in the preceding 6 months)

    Next-highest:
iGary with 4854 (up from his 2724 in the preceding 6 months), jsw with 4106, ~Shard~ with 3184

There were 12 members with 6-month post counts over 2000 and another 19 with post counts between 1000 and 2000, both numbers that grew since last time.

Four members made more than 1000 posts in 6 months yet did not make the Top 50: eva01 (1813), robbieduncan (1282), GFLPraxis (1224), and ITASOR (1032). GFLPraxis had this same distinction 6 months ago.

    Lowest:
Four members stayed in the Top 50 despite having no posts in the last six month: wdlove (#2), eyelikeart (#6), rainman::|:| (#37), and AlphaTech (#46), who managed to remain on the Top 50 despite not having posted since April 2003!

    Next-lowest:
MacBandit (#20) and MrMacman (#24), each with 11 posts in 6 months, shadowfax (#36) with 17

--- Excluded members and posts ---

Members Macrumors and MacBytes, who represent site posts, not real members, are always excluded from my Top 50 tracking.

Unregistered or banned members are not included in my charts. For the record, King Cobra would have been #36 on the Top 50.

Post counts used for computations are "net posts", those that contribute to the post count as displayed in member profiles. Posts that are deleted do not count, nor do posts in threads that are deleted or threads in non-counted forums, incuding the Wasteland.

Due to deletion or Wastelanding of threads, inactive members actually lost posts over the last 6 months: 18 by wdlove, 6 by eyelikeart, and 4 by rainman::|:|.

Mad jew is crazy to be posting 6700+ times in 6 months, in 'counted' threads only. That doesn't include the Politics section, right? I bet that iGary would be even higher if it did...

    Keep posting, everybody!

Thanks once again Doctor Q for providing these fascinating stats – I always enjoy reading through the report and seeing what has happened over the past 6 months in terms of our established members – and of course our newcomers as well!

As for myself, no surprises, I guess. ;) It’s also nice to finally be a Demi God – I had been meaning to contribute about a year ago, and it’s great to finally be contributing to the site in more ways than just my advice and comments. ;)

Lastly, I also want to thank mad jew for making my prolific posting look not quite as bad when compared to his. :p ;) :D

Thanks again Doctor Q, your efforts are appreciated.

I carefully slid in with a landslide of mediocrity nothing special about my posting habbits at all >_> <_< ........

I lost a crap load of posts in the piracy thread when it was moved to political.

    anyway, generally "w00t"

also if we take my 6 month average then if i spent all day posting i'd spend 90 mins per post assuming i sleep 12 hours a day (which i try to) and my posts on average have about 90 words in them thus i'd have to average a word a minute.

    commence the pointless maths.

I love this thread - even though I'll never even come close to the top 50, considering that it has taken me over a year to hit 200 posts. Thanks to Doctor Q for doing these stats!

I look at all these numbers and think to myself, "Someday, some beautiful day, I will reach 500." And then I will be able to die happy.

I would have eaten, but it takes a long time to compute these stats so I had to go without food or rest since yesterday. Luckily, I have an Independence Day party to go to today, so I can catch up on hot dogs and red, white, and blue cupcakes while you "choke" on these numbers and facts.

I have more work here, too, since I "owe you" a six-month projection and an "end of time" projection. That's where fact turns to fiction, but it's part of the fun. :) I'm working on those now.

You've only been a member for 5 months, and are already almost there - I wouldn't worry too much, as there are many members who have been around for much longer and have much lower post counts. ;)

Thanks muchly for the stats. At the next update, I will probably drop out of the Top 50 completely due to my low posting rate...

Then again, that isn't too surprising, given how my interest in here has faded. It may yet come back - I would not be surprised if I have another 50+ post day (I've had 2 so far in my history here).
