I've used both, and I'd actually say they're pretty comparable - when they work.

Transmission seems more stable than azureus, though. Azureus tends to freeze fairly frequently, in my experience.

Azeurus just has a rediculous amount of overhead for a torrent client.
I finally got tired of the CPU suckage and the general crashiness.

I just want s simple client that does simple things.
Get the torrent file, download/upload the data.
    Allow me limit up/download speeds.

I'd use Transmission or any other non-Java client, but I can't seem to find one that lets me selectively download files, which is a major selling point for me, as well as scheduling.

Are there any native clients out there that do this?

    Azureus for DHT and plug-ins

Transmission 0.7 for quick and easy torrents.

I find myself running Azureus a lot more often to get the highest speed and for harder to get trackers.

I've been using XTorrent lately, and it seems pretty stable. I played a bit with BitRocket, but had lots of issues with it crashing. Transmission also works well, a lot like XTorrent.

Azureus is big on causing problems. I had a lot of hassle with it. Just use bit torrent, works fine.

I love Transmission since it has a small memory footprint and is super easy to use. I wish transmission would implement selective file downloads as well. If anyone knows of a simple, low memory torrent client that can accomplish this I would love to know.

Hopefully you Transmission users are using 0.7.

Secondly, I find that the memory footprint is about the same with Azureus once you hit a torrent over 1 GB.

On their website, the latest version is 0.61, where have you got .7 from?

You never mentioned it was in the beta stage, dispite the confusing 0. version numbers which implies it's all beta.

There site highly suggests the latest free availble version is 0.61 - if the home page suggests that, why would you go digging for more. I saw the change log and it took me to a site which didn't mean anything to me.

If I could find it, do you think I would have asked? Don't have to be an ass about it!

I've never had the "beta" version crash at all what so ever. I find it GREATLY superior to the current 0.61 release and I'm boggled as to why it hasn't been released.

    1. Most OS X applications are downloadable in the .dmg disk image type.
    2. "Transmission-latest.dmg" usually gets you the latest build.
    3. "Transmission-0.7-svn-r1475.dmg" is the last build in the list.
    4. r = revision/build number. The higher up the more features and tickets resolved in its development.

I just started using Transmission and its sooooo much better than Azureus. I just installed and started torrenting without needing to fiddle with ports. Its also fast.

Actually you do need to fiddle with ports. I believe that uPnP alleviates that somewhat in 0.7. Otherwise your ports are blocked by NAT and the OS X firewall.

That is my experience as well. Honestly, I don't really understand the instability issues people report with Intel machines. 2.5.0.4 is as stable as they come. I'm going to assume some cross-over with previous versions.

As for the footprint, I find the increase a wash when compared to the capabilities and control AZ provides. Another 2% on the system is an issue when you need to block bad clients, adjust seed protocol, etc.? C'mon.

If you just want to leech and seed, use Transmission or any other light-weight client; if you actually use and initiate torrents frequently, you are crippled without the capabilities of Azureus.

Azureus is best for the featureset, especially if you are on any private trackers.

Transmission is pretty sucky IMO, no UDP tracker support in this day and age?

Azureus. Industry standard bit torrent client. So cutting edge it bleeds.
