    If I know anything I know this . . .

Touch screen for driver while driving a car . . . bad, VERY BAD!!! They tried touch screens before for a/c and radio and such, people with those touch screens were too busy looking at their interface (they couldn't feel the buttons) and were having a lot more crashes than every other sober person on the road.

    Probably true :D

Gizmodo.com says that similar Clairon units, without the iPod functionality, are in the $2K range

interestingly enough, i've allways known pioneer to be a bigger name than clarion in car audio and they dont have a ipod interface yet.

either way, a roll out lcd panel, which this is, usually adds 500-700 to the price of a comparable radio without the screen.

my radio, alpine cva-1004 goes for around 800 but its not touch screen.

im sure the touch buttons have a alternate hard wired button thow. as much as the units are expensive, the motors can still burn out and if the screen cant come out and those are the only buttons, ur pretty screwed.

my cva-1003 (2 years ago model) the screen motor started to die after about a year and a half and the screen wouldnt fully come out, or id have to help it by pulling on it and pushing it up.

i have the ipod interface for alpine, and if u have a alpine, i suggest getting it. i love it. i rarly leave the house without my ipod. i still listen to XM to find new songs / and i rarely listen to standard radio.

i don't know why this is such big news. You can get an Alpine iVA-D300 or IVA-D901, which are both touch screen 7-inch indash displays with DVD-players and can recieve XM or Sirius radio, and already has an iPod interface. WOW that was a long winded sentence. I just can't believe clarion is acting like this is something great. Oh, one more thing...the IVA-D300 is only $1500...i'm sure clarion is going to charge a lot more than that, and the Alpine sounds and looks a lot better.
