I'm planning on upgrading from a 100GB drive to a 160GB drive in my Macbook Pro, and I want to back everything up from the 100GB drive onto an external 500GB drive using Disk Utility. Now once I stick in the 160GB drive and then restore my backup onto the new drive, will I have trouble getting either Mac OS X to boot, or Windows XP to boot? I'm pretty sure that Mac OS X will boot because apple made Disk Utility which is meant to make/restore images, but I'm concerned about my Windows partition.

Does anyone have any experience doing something like this or advice?

    Thanks

    Yeah.

Stick your XP disc in, let it boot, run the recovery console, follow the prompts, log into your installation, type fixmbr, then fixboot, then quit. That should fix it.

If not, do a repair on the installation, by letting it boot up the XP disc, then hitting R when it finds your XP install. It will repair all of the XP files, but you wont have to reinstall everything. Its' very handy.

    Enjoy. :)

Thanks! Hopefully I can order my new drive soon and then tear apart my Macbook Pro...
