    Hullo all,

I'm a new Mac user. Well, fairly new anyway. I have a G4 eMac which I really do like quite a bit (and am considering upgrading to the new iMac 20").

My G4 runs OS X version 10.4.8. I usually use Firefox 2.0.0.1 and sometimes Safari 2.0.4.

I used to watch streaming video at the CBC.ca website. I'd click on the appropriate link and get to watch my favourite nightly news show.

Ok, months ago my streaming suddenly stopped. When I visit the site and click, I get a window that says "Available Plugin Downloads" and then offers to take me to Microsoft's site. I get handed this link ultimately:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/mac/mp9/default.aspx

    Okay, so I download and I get a file called a "WindowsMediaInstaller.bin".
I have no idea what a .bin file is, a compressed thing, I suspect, because when I download it StuffIt tries to open it. I do so and wind up with a file called "Windows Media.sitx".

When I click on it the OS tells me that there is no application with which to open this file.

Please, man! All I wanna do is watch some tv! Is that so wrong?? :)

Any help from mavens around here is much appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Yours,

    Julian

Windows Media Player has been discontinued (and hasn't been updated in a really long time). Use Flip4Mac (just as Microsoft tells you to).
