Type of HARD DRIVE FOR MY POWERBOOK?????

i have a 15" powerbook g4 titanium 1ghz laptop.
my original hard drive in my PB, is a 4200rpm,
can i buy a 5400rpm or 7200rpm hard drive and will work and have enough power to run it?


my hard drive died on it and tryin to buy a new one.
i called apple and talk to some guy that sound like he didn't know what he was talking about.

my question to him was:

NO i have to stick with 4200rpm hard drives.

Is this TRUE?

No. You can use what ever you like. The power consumption is the same or less (probably less) than the original 4200 RPM.

Make sure you get the proper interface - PATA (IDE).

It will work, but will consume at least the same amount of power. It will also run hotter and be a bit louder. And yes, make sure it is an IDE, 2.5" drive, with as much cache as possible. The performance increase will outweigh any power and noise issues in my opinion.

whats the differance between ata-100 and ata-300?

The 4200rpm use to get very hott already on my lap.

so if i get the 5400 or 7200 it will get MORE hotter than the 4200 and i mit burn myself? lolol

I'm sure. I put one in a titanium 667 - 160GB, 5400 rpm. Yours is newer (I'm assuming it's the aluminum, FW800.)

ATA-300 vs 100 is speed. You can go faster, but not slower than ATA-100.

edit: The 667MHz came with either a 40GB 4200RPM or a 60GB 5400RPM. Looks like yours had the option of 40/60GB 4200RPM or an 80GB 5400RPM.
