Mo Udall's son, Congressman Mark Udall, has thrown his hat in the ring for the Senate seat vacated by Ben Nighthorse Campbell. With Gov. Owens also reaching a decision not to enter the race this turns what was once a solid Republican hold to a Democratic leaning pick up. Throw this in with Oklahoma, Illinois, Alaska, and some surprisingly close possibilities in open seats in some southern states (North Carolina, South Carolina, and Louisiana - Georgia is almost certainly a Republican pick up) and you have a very changed picture of the Democrats attempt to win back the Senate majority.

OK, that was the fastest campaign in history! Udall is now bowing out of the race (less than 24 hours after he entered it) in order to clear the race for the Democratic party's most popular politician, AG Ken Salazar. If anything this strengthens the Democrat's hopes of winning this formerly Republican seat.
