I've been getting junk email from this place, and I noticed this email had some weird advice that made me think "WTF???"

I would love to post the email, but they send it as a picture (wtf again).
And it is an unsupported gif file when I try to upload it.

Anywhoo, it is talking about FireWire devices and how sometimes they randomly will appear/disappear from a desktop. This answer: Reset PRAM, then shut down. Unplug it all for ~5-10 minutes. Now start it back up.

  What the heck is this??????
    Linkety to their main page
Any thoughts? (Cheap prices...but kinda too good to believe, so therefore I think it is a phony, but it is just IMO...they could be legit but I really don't know but I will give em a "Warning Before You Buy" simply because it doesn't feel right)

When all else fails, you can also use Command-Shift-4 to capture it while it is displayed on your screen. That'll give you a PDF which you can open in Preview and save as a gif or jpeg that will work as an attachment.

    That logo can be faked...

Grrr...The .gif I pulled from it didn't want to open in anything (Even Graphic Converter) but since they spam, I'll get another one in a few days....hours...

Sorry if I am bashing a legit company, but their advice seemed way out there.

Phew...I started to feel bad that I had messed up a legitimate company but now, not so much. Next spam message I get I'll post it here.

for the record, the advice they give is sound... shutting the machine down and unplugging all FW devices is the method to reset the FW bus, which can be the fix for a lot of FW problems. just weird that they'd send out an email with it. perhaps you're subscribed to their advertising newsletter? they throw tips and tricks in those to make them seem worthwhile...

    Question.

Do you have to disconnect the FW devices, or just power them down?

Secondly, is this the same for a PC?

    TIA,

    Sushi

No, I have never subscribed to them. Their advice was to shut down the computer, unplug each device, replug it back it, zap the PRAM, and restart. Still waiting for their next spam message...
