Sirius has mentioned podcasting. It would be great if I could get the Stern shows as a podcast.

Probably would never happen, but it would be gravy if there were one subscription for both iTunes and a satellite radio provider (my pref. is Sirius).

Maybe an iTunes station? The ability to download songs/shows? Access to satellite radio programming via iTunes (no need for satellite radio hardware).

Like I said, will never happen. But it would be nice.

He described it as, "Wayne's World for radio"...made me giggle. And I have to say, I agree. Although the recent BBC Podcast Trial has got my interest piqued. Might prove to be interesting yet.

eh honestly the whole pod casting thing doesn't really interest me all that much. Maby I just haven't given it enough of an honest try but listening to some crap that some guy recorded in his garage on a saterday night doesn't really appeal to me. I mean ppl could have been putting junk like that up on the web for years now, we didn't need the iPod to make it happen.

However the comment about sirus radio does actually interest me a bit.

dornoforpyros, like the early blogs, many Podcasts are not very good. But there are some great ones and as the demands for quality grows, you'll start to see even more outstanding shows.
Few great shows are out there, but they are out there, you just have to spend a little time looking for them.

I'll repost this from another thread:

Podcasting as a concept is still less than a year old, it has gone from one show to over 5000. That is one hell of a growth rate. And that is just the different shows being produced, that doesnt count the amount of people listening to them.

The content is far from blah, yes there are some blah shows, but its the concept of people being able to be their own broadcasters that is the exciting part. If you actually tried listening to a few shows, and do some checking about, there are lots of great shows out there, in almost all topics. They are done by people who love what they are doing and that is a huge driving force. It is giving people more content to put on their ipods.

For the short term, iTunes supporting Podcasts is the biggest news from this article. It will give more people easy access to podcasts which gives people more reasons to get ipods. And what is the cost for apple for this? Almost nothing, just the addition of podcatching software into itunes.

    This is HUGE.....and completely awesome.

    Aaron

    I agree 100%.

The people that "don't get" podcasts are either people, who doesn't care for the many different subjects that Podcasts brings you or people who only know little about the available podcasts.
The RSS reader NewsFire is clean and beautiful, it looks like an original Apple app and now it supports podcasts and imports them directly into iTunes. But it would be even better if iTunes did that all by itself.

(now if iTunes only had a better radio section, that would be something. There's no reason why the section can't look more like the store with nice graphics and station info.)

btw. Check out http://www.stylusmagazine.com/stycast/ They have some great Podcasts.

there are some hilarious and amazing podcasts out there (tecnikal diffikulties, cayanne chris conroy, et al.). it would be awesome if itunes could support them and automatically download them...

    only apple approved podcasts...

seems like they are going to screen and only provide the ones they approve. not exactly the true spirit of micro-niche programming if apple is the podcast gatekeeper.
