I am going to have to buy a new iLife aren't I? Can I not put in my 10.4 extras DVD to add my iLife from my macbook install disk to leopard?

Right. You should be able to run iLife '06 on Leopard, but if you buy iLife '07 then it seems it might require Leopard (or not). We'll just have to wait and see what the details are when it's released.

When you upgrade an operating system it archives and restores all your programs and files. You will put the Leopard disk in let it upgrade the OS and then restart and have all of your programs and files as before. This does not mean that some programs and drivers will not need updates to work with Leopard, but you certainly won't have to buy iLife again.
