    okay.

so i bought an iBook G4 1.42 off of eBay for about 250.00

    everything works great
    BUT
    airport

it acknowledges that i have bluetooth
but it says that airport isn't connected.

this ibook has the logic board connected airport express card
so i have no idea what the problem could be!?!?

i took it to the apple genius
and they told me to reinstall tiger

    but that didn't work

    anymore ideas!?!?

    PLEASE APPRECIATED =D

From the Apple menu in the upper left hand corner, click "About This Mac" and then click the "More Info..." button in that window. That'll open up system profiler which will tell you if the OS is aware of an airport card being installed.

well, its really easy to pull the keyboard out and check to make sure its installed correctly

twist that little silver screw thats on the what f5..f6 key?

then it just pops up and the airport card is on the left side

    yeahh.
this iBook doesn't have that kind of Airport Card
    according to the manual
    and apple
the airport card is sodered into the logic board?!

    is that correct?!

it says that an airport card is NOT present?!!

i do wonder what may be wrong.

    NOTE!
I WENT TO THE APPLE STORE
TO SEE IF THEY COULD FIX IT
    THE HAD IT WORKING
    BUT THEN THE COMPUTER CRASHED!
    WHAT CAN I DO!?

WOW, $250, I kinda find that a little hard to believe, I just bought one myself, and just received it today and I couldn't believe the shape it was in, it was in brand new condition, I'm thrilled right now...I'm just saying I haven't seen any Ibook G$ 1.42GHZ for under $400 on ebay, maybe that why you only paid $250 for it, maybe the wirless is broken.

does the ibook have a pcmcia slot? I doubt it does, but if so then you could just buy a wifi card.

    EDIT:

According to LowEndMac, even the last iBook g4 ever made didn't have a pcmcia card slot.

    "PC Card slots: none"

I've never heard of one, but perhaps there's such a thing as a wifi system that attaches to ethernet, firewire, usb, or some other port.

USB Wireless Here You Come ...

You've ruled out software by giving it a fresh "format" right?

This model is notorious for AirPort problems, and for the record, the airport card isn't soldered on. It is a smaller card that plugs into the logic board, but a lot of times isn't very securely fastened to the LB. Apple realized this problem and came out with another revision of it that had a small bracket that "forced" it down a little to make better contact, but to no avail as many of these models and models like yours have either their AirPort cards not show up at all, or kernel panic constantly.

You should look into sending it in to someone, or at least finding an ASP to take a look at it for a small charge.

    well yeah.

im not that good with fixing electronics.
and i took it to the apple store
and they said that the card must be faulty.
they were going to charge me 280.00
to change the whole logic board.

    and yes
i did buy this model as is.

i think my old way to gain airport
    would be an usb airport.
