I read this on the BBC's website and it also had the same take on the history of the accord.

So in order for the Texas hangman to do bang up business, we are sacrificing an agreement we helped to create in order to better protect US citizens. Sounds like Bush logic to me.

Why? Did Bush do this just to thumb his nose at the rest of the world, or what?

Is it that bloody important that we be able to easily execute foreign citizens?

We are going back in time with this administration on many fronts :( America will get sick of all this stuff and swing back to the left in a little is my prediction but it will take years to undo many things the republicans have pushed through the back halls of washington. Its time travel.

This administration seems incredibly short sighted. Disengaging from the rest of the world by withdrawing from various treaties and conventions is not much of a long-term plan. A smarter one (for pursuing US interests) would be to engage while the US is still relatively strong and has maximum influence.

So. This is the new, mellow, cooperative Bush, reaching out yet again.

You said pretty much what I was going to.

Well, what the hell. I guess now if Bush wants to help some American that's been wrongly prosecuted in a foreign country, he'll just go to war with that country.
